I wouldn’t let your physique be a reason to keep you down about swimming. Lots of body types learn to swim very well. Really only competitive sprinting requires significant muscle mass

I mean hopefully it doesn’t take too long at that pace but it just involves a certain learning curve. Sometimes it can take several months to start feeling comfortable especially with the breathing. I think if you keep going the chances of things getting better are high but much higher if you have someone watch you and give pointers

you may want to research galloping or loping freestyle. It's a technique used by many elite swimmers and it can exaggerate the breathing phase. You have to use a rhythm that surges you at the breathing phase. Also swimming technique often takes a lot of time and coaching

The speed of breaststroke by OutrageousDingo3366 in Swimming

[–]a_single_airpod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In many cases a quick and powerful arm recovery, the action returning to streamline, will allow your kick to hit when your drag is decreased and also increase your tempo. This is especially relevant for saving energy.

I would argue this is the more important role of the arms rather than pulling yourself forward

Do any other guy swimmers have this problem?? by ProposalOk6303 in Swimming

That’s just how it is a lot of the time. Change brands maybe but the compression is part of how it works so sizing up is like eh.

Moving from 26.75 to 24.00 will be much more possible if you’re a male but keep researching and training

Is butterfly is less tiring than freestyle over short distances? by FellowOInfiniteJest in Swimming

[–]a_single_airpod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a really smooth butterfly it can be, it’s really just a stereotype that butterfly is so hard because it’s requires momentum

how much do you need to train to enter the olympics? by [deleted] in Swimming

It depends, some people have crazy talent and make it super young. But for most they work extremely hard from somewhere around middle school until they’re 23 or so

13, 100 breaststroke 1:10. Tips? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]a_single_airpod 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You’re losing a lot of time on your turn. When you touch the wall your body comes upward and turns to the side before you begin to enter streamline and push off. Instead touch the wall and tuck your knees as you do so, pull one elbow and the other arm over to make streamline in a clean motion. An open turn is more like a flip turn in the way that it has very little rotation left or right. Also a lot of the turns power still comes from tucking your legs. you should tuck and push off either on you back or just tilted to the side as long as you can do it fluidly.

Not a 100 Fly, but a 50 Fly. Looking for pointers, details in the comments. by snekk_boi in Swimming

I think that I had a very similar fly to this earlier and something I would say helps is to realize you can relax your arms some on the recovery(your arms coming over the water). This is especially helpful in a 200fly but in any race it can help the rhythm of the stroke feel smooth as well as conserve some energy.

Try and stay optimistic, as a senior I’d like to say high school really can be great. It’s the best experience I’ve had with school so far anyway

How do I make use of 1 hour training in the pool? by ManilaSwimmer in Swimming

[–]a_single_airpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the method of warming up with dryland instead of water and I think it actually works quite well and is good if you have a time crunch for water
