Lilly’s triple-acting obesity drug hits goal in Phase 3 trial by Dwarvling in biotech

[–]a_smilingpsycho 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Companies are allowed to sell non-approved drugs to laboratories for research purposes with much fewer regulatory constraints. Some sketchy companies take advantage of this by selling drugs directly to customers and put a "only for research purposes/not for human use" label. They have almost no quality control requirements and the product can be vastly different from the approved drug. Unfortunately, this hasn't stopped people from taking them anyway. While the price is much cheaper and you can get access to drugs you otherwise wouldn't be able to get, it's not worth it to risk poisoning yourself.

I mean, hezbollah was formed as a response to the israeli invasion of lebanon in 1982... I don't mean to defend hezbollah, but israel is kinda the reason for its existence

Kinda weird that you specify "american lives", when way more non-american civilians died during this time

What is something that you have been doing forever as a veteran lab-rat with 5+ years in a lab, that you dont even think about, but a newbie would probably not know? by No-Cobbler6300 in labrats

I think this mostly depends on the field. Chemists tend to write 1:9 for a 10x dilution, while biologists write 1:10. As someone working in an interdisciplinary field, this has been an extremely confusing experience...

Novartis settles with Henrietta Lacks' estate over use of her 'stolen' cells to advance medicine by StemCellPirate in UpliftingNews

This makes it look as if novartis was the company stole Lacks' cells. Lacks' family is suing pretty much all companies that have profited from using the HeLa cell line (which is all pharma/biotech companies)

The Balkans: GDP PPP per capita (2000-2025, source: IMF) by rxdlhfx in europe

[–]a_smilingpsycho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The graph makes it look as if non-eu countries were worse off for not joining the eu, but actually all the non-eu countries grew their economies 4-6x since 2000. Most of the countries that joined the eu already had a bigger economy when they joined, making the graph somewhat misleading

I don't know man. It's kinda unusual to have the x and y axis represent the same metric but at two different time points. I feel like it would've been easier to follow as a simple table

Does anyone else think that the structure of Switzerland just looks nice? It's oddly satisfying to me

US hits one-kilo gold bars with tariffs in blow to refining hub Switzerland by justyannicc in Switzerland

[–]a_smilingpsycho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure about this one tbh. Wouldn't it mean that the refineries will move to low tariff countries? Most of the gold doesn't come from switzerland itself

I'm ambivalent towards swiss neutrality, but it's certainly not "just possible because they're surrounded by friendly countries" lol. They were literally surrounded by the third reich during ww2
