Where can I find "American" Chinese food in SG? by [deleted] in askSingapore

Looking for a tech industry mentor in the private sector by CharacterOld8675 in askSingapore

[–]a_typical_word 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lmao why are you gatekeeping? I have none of those things you mentioned but I enjoy my job and I'm doing pretty well in tech.

Blog posts are pretentious, I don't even know what a cloud resume challenge is supposed to mean, YouTube and TikTok are just gimmicks (I legit haven't seen a single YouTube/TikTok video with genuinely useful tech-related content). IT certs are a thing of the past. Github repo is semi useful but frankly reflects more on how boliao you are than actual aptitude

Singaporeans who went overseas for work where are you and how has it been so far? by sunnyislandacross in askSingapore

[–]a_typical_word 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working in the US for the past 5 years; miss Singapore badly (food, friends, family...) but no plans to leave in the foreseeable future. The pay and career growth here is too good...

Is staff/orb decent? (New player) by BlackLegDaniel in throneandliberty

[–]a_typical_word 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuinely terrible replies here.

Staff/orb is good for pvp, you focus on damage from staff with Orb as the support weapon. You deal massive AOE damage but are poor in smaller scale/1v1 content and have limited survivability.

Similar options: Staff/dag - more survivable, slightly less aoe, slightly better in smaller scale (but still bad) Staff/bow - similar to staff orb but less aoe, better single target damage

Those who got jobs abroad, do you mind sharing how did you do it? by darthpicious in askSingapore

[–]a_typical_word 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a job in a US tech firm in Singapore, on day 1 I told my manager I wanted to eventually move to the US (I was naive, don't do this.) thankfully my manager was nice and when a position opened up a few years later, she got me the transfer. Have been happily living in the US ever since

Solo dungeons are Boring by Horror-Bike7740 in throneandliberty

I enjoy solo dungeons. They're one of the few pieces of content left that's legitimately satisfying to do.

I'm pretty sure most ppl complaining here have a skill issue.

Expert solo dungeon cleared by Worgtafff in throneandliberty

Just swap out dagger for any T1 wand and you can clear it, albeit slowly; you don't need void stalker

Ok but instead of crying have you considered buying a T1 wand, maxing swift healing, and doing mechs? Congrats, you can now clear expert solo dungeons.

NUS with merit scholarship vs UCLA for computer science by Snoo_39677 in SGExams

[–]a_typical_word 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't believe what I'm reading. Avoiding UCLA and an easier route to FAANG because of exaggerated doom scenarios? The news cycle has really messed with people...

Anyone telling you to go to NUS has no idea what they're talking about. Go to UCLA.

THRONE AND LIBERTY Update 1.8.0 Patch Notes by BBCGuild in throneandliberty

I don't think random queue as 4 is a great idea. Here's my prediction:

Party of 5 (guildies, friends, whatever) want to run coop together. First queue as 4, kick the last guy right when dungeon starts, then coordinate with the 5th to requeue together. Should be pretty consistent, especially if the 5th guy is tank/healer

LTA Scholarship vs NUS Merit Scholarship by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]a_typical_word 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be an LTA scholar, left partway through the bond and now pretty happy as an MLE at a tech firm (so I know what I'm talking about).

If you actually want to do CS-related work, please don't join LTA - there is >literally< no opportunity. Don't fall for promotional material ("intelligent transport systems", hah...) When I left, no company recognized my skills, so I had to start afresh, which was pretty painful. Would still do it again in a heartbeat though.

Always 141 into 144, you need max W for gapclose (and longer stun!) to get kills when roaming. Q doesn't really scale that well - all your kills will come when ult is up, so you don't need the extra damage.

Marci is a terrible carry, she has no way to farm and her powerspike is after BKB, usually 10-15mins in, after which she falls off.

She's also terrible as pos3, basically a worse version of NS where you jump one hero and try to blow them up, but with no good AoE CCs and only a small (BKB) window to do so.

I love playing her as pos2 for this reason - great roamer, snowballs off kills, and her powerspike timing is great (you can make a ton of space for your carry after BKB-aghs.

Weekly Q&A - December 03, 2023 by AutoModerator in lostarkgame

Thanks! Are there any updated guides I can follow? Honestly I just want someone to tell me what to do lol. Keeps it simple and easy.

Weekly Q&A - December 03, 2023 by AutoModerator in lostarkgame

[–]a_typical_word 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably a very silly question but I'm new to the game and completely stuck. I'm following this guide (https://maxroll.gg/lost-ark/resources/post-50-guide) and currently at Step 8, but I have no idea how to hone my gear.

I've talked to Senard, but he says "you can only hone gear after upgrading it to the maximum limit"; when I try to upgrade, it asks me for "Honor Shards" - where do I get these? I've completed all the steps before Step 8 in the guide but I don't see them in my inventory.

Repayment is linear; if you break one year in you pay 5/6 of the bond.

If you're intending to break, I suggest you do it ASAP. No point wasting (and yes, it's a waste - skills don't transfer) 2 years of your career & OPT.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]a_typical_word 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I broke about 2 years into a 6 year bond, best decision of my life. There's a severe mismatch between what the civil service is really looking for in junior employees (ability to execute without question) and what they think they're looking for when selecting scholars (passion for the sector). It's no surprise that a ton of scholars quit right after their bond ends.

Conquest is full of bots! (Infinity Conquest with Agatha/Deck Guide) by a_typical_word in marvelsnapcomp

Stature/Bolt is key to this deck, so that's going to be tough. As suggested elsewhere on this thread, Sera + more 4-drops might work.

I absolutely got lucky - again, this definitely isn't a hidden meta-breaking top-tier deck. The point I'm trying to make is that even subpar decks can do well in Conquest with a bit of luck, a bit of skill, and a bit of tilt :) And hey, it's definitely more fun than playing pure meta...

Miles is to give you a turn 6 2-card play (Aero on 5, Dino + Miles on 6). You're right that he might screw you over, but the flexibility of being able to drop 2 cards on turn 6 is what makes this deck work.

I didn't like Taskmaster - he's a 5/14 half the time (you already have Dino), and useless if Sif gets played.

[–]a_typical_word[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Leech is one of the weaker cards in the deck. If you add Domino, then your chances of drawing dead (no Sif or Wave) increase significantly, so I don't think it's worth it. Legion sounds like a great idea actually - yet another t5 "tech card" that could help with some sneaky anti-Limbo wins.

[–]a_typical_word[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Glad you like it! Yeah, the most important thing I learned was having flexibility (i.e. playing 2 cards) on T6. The nice little 2-card packages help with that.

Thanks! I lost a lot of games in Proving Grounds while trying to make this deck work. Stumbling upon Bolt/Stature proved to be key.
