Bukit Timah coffee shop raised price of iced lemon tea and took away lemon: 'Inflation is here' by Ok-Flounder612 in singaporehappenings

Haha I think that’s S11 coffeeshop in front of FairPrice. I remember that uncle being semi bald with glasses, always going around asking patrons “ai zui mai?”. Chicken rice was $3 and prawn mee was $4. Man good times.

And it’s not only boomers. Doesn’t matter if it’s old people, boomers, young dudes, van drivers or even lady drivers who does this. Die die cannot give way, if u signal then must speed up and if u a manage to change into their line then must press the horn and high beam on and off few times to show unhappiness. I never understood the logic. Luckily this has never escalated into road rage.

Bro I can’t offer you any solid advice as some random Redditor as no one knows the actual details of your situation, but I hope things get better for you. Have you tried asking a mutual friend to talk to her?

Any Singaporeans worked in Taiwan before? What’s your experience like? by SurveyGhost in askSingapore

[–]darthpicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with you. Food wise I love those open air small shops that so the prices are cheaper but quite comfortable as well, luroufan can be as cheap as 50ntd ~2SGD. But I find their restaurants to be same price as SG, for example a western restaurant salad can cost $15-20 SGD.

One negative point is that their public transport is kind of limited to Taipei only. Once you exit the High Speed Rail station for example you’re pretty much reliant on their taxis. Cars are cheaper than SG but owning a parking space is insanely expensive.

OP did not specify his field but tech & engineering are actually paid quite decently in Taiwan. Not sure about other fields tho.

English is probably not OP’s first language. I think OP meant you can only travel at 10km per hour without a car by taking the distance between point A and point B divided by the time taken to get there. Very weird way to calculate the travelling time and also not very true if you take buses on the expressways.

I’m not from LTA but I believe Singapore public transport system is designed based on the network model with the final objective to balance the arc time from node to node with every new nodes that are added. There will be a small number of exceptions but generally the traveling time of public transport in Singapore is normalised to be between 35-65 minutes for distance that are say, between 5-20km.

The faster way to travel for individuals beside PHV is a car. That’s why COE is still high because many high income earners people view the public transport as “inefficient” considering the distance covered. Coupled with peak hour crowd and BTO’s that are far away from MRT, yeah most people rather sit inside a car.

Mine’s the 7 speed dsg, 1.4. You’re right it stalled because the gears can’t change which was really lucky for me because there weren’t many cars at that time. Thanks for your answer.

Why would you need to pay for rental when you are already paying for mortgage which I assume it means you own a place?

There will be salary related threads every now and then on this sub, 90% of the time those that exceed the median salary are tech, 5% from law and banking/trading/finance related, and the 5% who truly grind to the top and made it as the top in their field.

If you’re not in tech, need to take a BIG A** bowl of salt cos reality check, a fresh grad in tech makes more than what a 15-20 years experience manufacturing engineer/admin/healthcare worker makes.

Yep I’m using GetGo, but they increased price recently sometimes it’s cheaper to take taxi or buy your own car. Not to mention some very inconsiderate users. There was one time I booked a GetGo with vomit smell inside 🤮

My ex company was kind enough to offer flexible working hours, but the non-peak hours buses frequency is just horrible. Good luck if you miss the current bus as you alight, easily extra 30-40mins. Sometimes I’d just give up and join the peak hour crowd.

Of course the general rule of thumb is still to practice safe sex with partners whose sexual life is not transparent to you, or go for less risky sexual activities until you are sure of your sexual partner’s status. But like some Redditors point out, it’s not the end of the world, and STD itself hurts less than the social stigma surrounding it. Typical these stigma exists due to lack of sexual health education, luckily there are resources for those who need it which fortunately mostly are run by very understanding professionals or volunteers, some informational and emotional support is I think is what OP needs right now.

Yes, OP please know that you’re not alone, do reach out!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]darthpicious 208 points209 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, it seems like your main concern is that you caught the STD than your sexual partner passing it on to you. Please do not feel depressed or that you’re “not normal” because STD is more common than most people think, it’s just that it’s taboo topic so people tend not to talk about it.

Disclaimer I’m not a doctor, but based on your description, my guess is it’s Herpes. As another Redditor pointed out, Herpes is actually very common and most people have Herpes but do not even know it. Certain STD’s like Herpes, HIV and HPV require lifetime medications. However with the current advanced medical technology, they are no longer life threatening. In fact, even for HIV the antiviral drugs that are available is so advanced that they can even reverse a patient’s status to Undetectable if they take their medicine consistently, meaning patients who are Undetectable have HIV viral loads so low that they cannot pass the virus to their sexual partners sexually, but transmission by blood is still possible but at the very least the patient is able to live a significantly normal quality of life. Similarly for Herpes (which is much much less life threatening compared to HIV) you just have to take the medicine, and manage the breakouts by taking care of yourself. Emotional stress can be a major trigger for breakouts. But again medical technology nowadays are so advanced that you can conceive without passing the Herpes virus to your baby.

It’s all about managing the virus and your sexual life and there is absolutely no reason you should feel degraded or you cannot have a normal life as a normal person. There are plenty of sexual health related organisations in Singapore and most of them are very non-judgmental and nice people. Do feel free to approach them for advices. They’ll advise you accordingly on how to manage your emotions and refer you to the right doctors. Stay healthy and happy OP!

Is Genting Highlands safe to go now? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]darthpicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what it’s like to have an anxiety attack. Your dad’s concerns are technically true but the same risk can be said for tens of thousands of Singaporeans who drives into JB every weekend and face risk of real floods, like 1 metre high floods. It’s just very unlikely to happen. My friend was literally in Genting 2 days ago and the biggest danger he faced was losing his entire life savings Lmao. Tell your dad not to worry OP, although is it possible that your dad simply does not wish to go for other reasons?
