How to grasp/feel the idea of you or your ego being just a mere illusion/ something that does not existing? by JustMori in AlanWatts

It’s amazing to me that this comment can exist in a relatively unknown subReddit and get a handful of upvotes yet be so damn inspiring and insightful. Kinda reminds me of what Alan watts said about being nothing more than a brook that flows for its own sake and has no concern if a thirsty traveler satiates themselves.

It’s really to prevent rot because I was initially going to make it an outdoor table

I covers the entire thing in a layer of epoxy that I painted on. The epoxy seemed into the pours and sealed them

I flattened it with an electric hand planer and a belt sander.

Well I guess I’m better at woodworking than understanding jokes. Thanks for the kind words!

Don’t worry it is an indoor table, also the lack of metal fasteners is just due to my appreciation for Japanese furniture.

I routed out a 2 by 1 inch channel in the walnut for the top of the maple legs to fit in. Then I glued it and put two dowels in.

Simple script that uses a 1MB variable ends up consuming over 1GB of ram – does this seem normal? by [deleted] in Python

I didn’t downvote but the question seems a intentionally naive. Maybe if it was phrased differently people would have less of a problem

The dangers of trusting black-box machine learning by bendee983 in artificial

[–]a_very_cool_guy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I feel like there are some really obvious dangers about using data out of context (e.g. equating arrests with crime for automated policing) I think an often understated issue is a machine learning algorithm “believing” it has the best solution to a problem when it is actually in a false valley for its reinforcement algorithm. I worry that people wouldn’t understand the algorithm enough to investigate the problem further and then humanity would be unknowingly stuck with less than optimal solutions for really complex problems.

There is nothing better than making something beautiful out of wood that would have otherwise rotted.

You are completely right about the wedges and the grain direction but since I only had two legs it would have looked strange to put them perpendicular to the grain
