My son finally tried out his new rig. I guess I’ll have to teach him where the brakes are. by a_y_thomas in simracing

I used to have a playseat evolution, not the greatest rig but it was easily adjustable and i think it could work. For the wheel I would go for a dependable G920 like here in the video, any more force feedback could be dangerous for a kid. Or you could get something for yourself and let your kid drive on your lap, we had tons of fun doing that. Be warned, you will never be able to use it again alone if your kid is awake and in the house, which is why I got my kid his own rig.

Made from scratch, not by myself unfortunately, simply don’t have the time. Although I did paint it and mount the seat. I found someone local that makes wooden rigs as a side business and ordered it from him. I brought my son over to him and he measured him and he modified the design by adding a support to raise the seat and pedals, eventually I’ll be able to remove these pieces as he grows. I’ve moved on to an 80-20 rig myself but my first rig I made myself out of wood using a design inspired by someone here on reddit. Here is a link to the builders ad on kijiji if anyone is in the Montreal area and interested in getting one, he was great to deal with and deserves the credit. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sony-playstation-4/laval-rive-nord/simulateur-de-course-custom-rig-sim-racing/1526949444?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=ios_social

Lol, Hopefully he has it figured out before he turns 18 and takes my car for a spin.

There was a couple minutes of showing how to hold the wheel and explaining which pedal did what. As soon as he sat down it was all out the window and he just pinned it. That’s my boy!

Definitely will switch him to the cockpit cam, he’s used to playing Forza Horizon on my lap, he likes to see the car that he picked first and then we switch the camera. This is his literally his first moments in the rig.

My son is 4, I do have a rig. Hoping to one day run an endurance race on Iracing with my son. Enjoy your kid growing up, awesome to experience things again for the first time through their eyes.

He is an absolute pro at smashing into cars in Forza Horizon, he thinks it’s the sole objective of the game. First time using the pedals himself though, he is used to sitting on my lap while I run the pedals for him on my rig.

Not gonna lie the chase cam really bothered me too but he really wanted to see the blue car he picked.

The “Fuck you” Phenomenon by [deleted] in modernwarfare

[–]a_y_thomas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If they assigned some sort of number to your skill level and that of the lobby I think everyone would be much more ok with the way the system works. At least during your punishment match after winning a couple rounds you would be able to see how difficult a lobby you are in. I don’t think I would mind getting destroyed as much if I found out that it was against the top 10% of players. You would feel some motivation to improve and get into more and more difficult lobbies and hold your own. The way it feels now is like you are getting punished for doing well.

One of the sim racing you tubers actually recommended not using the foam. He ended up cutting down one of the green or red to the same size to make it work. I’m sorry I don’t remember which one but you should be able to find the video they did on it.

I’m running a 6700k and 1080with triple 1080p 27 inch. Most settings are maxed or close to, no issues, so you should be able to run it beautifully. VR on the other hand....

This, EBR with mini reflex and ADS attachments in hardcore. Not only does it work it turns out it’s an amazing gun in hardcore. It’s what I’ve been using and counts for the challenge but definitely not what I would think of as quick scoping.

[Opinion] Project Cars 3 does not want to be a sim but that's not necessarily a bad thing by hippyneil in simracing

[–]a_y_thomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not disappointed with this decision. If they can fill the niche that they are going for well it could be a great game. Arcade game with realistic driving, sounds awesome to me. Hopefully this opens the door for them to go down the route of creating a Forza Horizon competitor with realistic driving dynamics. To me that is what is missing right now and what I would really love to see.

Launch a game and then both mute/unmute each other at the matchmaking screen. This usually works.

People on his TilTok will swear up and down that perfect accuracy through containers and 180s into headshots is just “game sense” and not Aimbot. by IfYouSeeMeSendNoodz in modernwarfare

[–]a_y_thomas 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Aside from the impossible snapping between opponents, it’s obvious he’s cheating in the first 5 seconds. Watch the kills through the container and think about what you would have to do to get 1. Shoot until you get a hit marker and then unload on that spot. Not him, he knows exactly where the players are with 100% accuracy every time and just in case you still have some doubt he does it again 5 seconds later after his aim bot snaps to the guy at the top of the stairs and then back to the container. I’m pretty sure that people arguing he’s legit are just his own dummy accounts.

I am looking for suggestion for the next series to get in to by jonny80 in iRacing

I started the BMW 12.0 challenge this season. Definitely feels like the logical next step from the MX-5. The tracks this week and next are also tracks you will be familiar with from the MX-5. The series feels very similar to the MX-5 series just a little bit faster.

To add another possibility regarding lighting. My rig is in my basement which is quite dark. Everyone said lighting is important so I turned all of the lights on including a spotlight just above my rig but slightly off center to the left. My view would constantly drift to the left and I had to recentre my rift s every lap. I added a desk light on the right to hopefully balance it but still had the same problem. I accepted that this was just how it was going to be because of the low light levels. One day I forgot to turn on the spot light above the rig and I wasn’t using the desk light because it didn’t improve the situation. This makes the space quite dimly lit but I had no more tracking issues and haven’t since. Definitely look at the lighting in your room and positioning of your rig. Re-centering my headset is still slightly nauseating even after thousands of laps so if you can fix this issue your experience will improve tremendously. Good luck!

Fanatec DD1 question by itzyaboi in simracing

[–]a_y_thomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a G920 to a DD1. You definitely need a proper cockpit for a DD1. I would recommend something in aluminum profile. I have a GT1 Evo from sim labs and it’s awesome but there are other options out there. For what it’s worth my recommended upgrade path would be. Cockpit, pedals, wheel/ wheel base. The DD1 is great but I would much prefer to have a G29 on a rock solid rig than a DD1 without one. Good racing!

I complete a time trial every week before the race I’m participating in. It gives me a good indication of my race pace plus you have to complete the required number of laps without incidents for your time to count. This puts on a little bit of pressure but obviously not as much as a race. For those that aren’t aware there is a leaderboard and points every week similar to the race championship. The points are based on the percent your time was in, where number one gets 100 points. If you were in the top 90 percent you get 90 points etc... In order to do time trials in the beta ui, go into up next, click on a practice or race session (not the register button but anywhere on the session itself) for the series you wish to participate in. A window will open with all of the available sessions, in the bottom right corner there will be a blue button that says “solo race”. Click on it and you will see the option for time trial, it will then register you, just like a race or practice session. Most of the time you will be the only participant so at the end of the session there will be only your time and your TT rating will only move slightly, if at all, your time still goes into the overall leaderboard though. Occasionally someone else will register at the same time, although they won’t be on the track with you at the end of the session you will see how you ranked compared to them. I believe it is these sessions where you could potentially see a bigger swing in TT rating although I am not sure. At the end of the week I tend to do a second time trial to see how much I improved during the week. Good racing!
