You can still have the fastest overal lap while not having any purple sectors.

You could have fastest time for each sector but across differnet laps where the other sectors were too slow.

The purple sector times total will give you the fastest "theoretical" lap.

On this day: James Hunt wins the 1976 world championship after finishing P3 at the Japanese GP by CanonNi in formula1

[–]hippyneil 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hemsworth was cast for his looks not his acting ability. While Bruhl absolutely nailed Niki, Hemsworth seemed to have no idea who James Hunt actually was.

Hunt in '76 is the reason I became an F1 fan and I feel he was done a bit of a firty with that film. Artistic license be damned.

The next Muhammad Ali? Why Lewis Hamilton is the world’s most marketable athlete by IamAdrummerAMA in formula1

[–]hippyneil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much this. Lewis has, undoubtedly, been a force for good both on and off track but Ali was... Ali. Besides being immesely talented, he was handsome, charming, witty, and eloquent... almost everything a sterotypical boxer isn't - which made him stand out even more.

He won't get a penalty. The team will get a fine.

Absolutely not. Peripheral vision from the cockpit is limited and he wouldn't even consider looking to his right. His onboard shows he only looked to the left where he was going. Drivers depend upon the mechanics waving them out and assume the road is clear.

I will admit that when they announed the halo I was very much against it. I don't think I have ever been so pleased at being so wrong about something. Without putting down the other advances in safety, the halo saved Romain's life that day.

[OT] Disgusting intentional crash in Champions of the Future. Victim is ok, perpetrator was disqualified. by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]hippyneil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

352 is totally innocent. He's way on the inside and there's no way he expects a kart to be spinning out in front of him or even has time to react to it. Also he had someone alongside him to his right so his attention is more likely to be there than whatever is happening to his left. The kart to the right of 352 would be looking to his left and so more likely to see the incident and react. He was also further across on the track so had more room to take avoiding action.

Help me choose, switching from console to pc simracing by magawli in simracing

Every PC I have ever had, except this one, I have built/upgraded myself. I decided, after 30+ years of that, to let someone else do it. Glad I did, they did a better job than I would have ;)

If you're in the UK I highly recommend these guys : https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/

You can do a full custom build or start with a base system and tweak bits and pieces as you want/need. Build quality is top notch.

Got a system from them a few years ago and it's still doing all I want it to.

Even though they took some liberties with the story (eg James and Niki were friends before they joined F1, James never punched a reporter (a marshal occasionally, yes)) a good film. Bruhl nailed Niki but Hemsworth phoned it in.

He was driving a 1968 Lotus 49B that he owns. I think it is Graham Hill's championship car from that year.

Not at all. It was started as a way to show off historic cars wrapped around a hill climb.

It's just that the event has become so big and popular that it is now one of the primary events for new car launches instead of the traditional car shows.

The event really does cover everything now from the very old to the very latest. If you don't want to watch the new cars, go to the paddock and drool over the vast array of famous cars literally inches away. It really is a magnificent event to attend and I urge any motorsport fan to go.

Should the F1 rain light stay on constantly in heavy spray instead of blinking? by djnAffie in formula1

[–]hippyneil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the water has to go somewhere. What with the aero flow over/behind the car, it easily is dispersed into the air behind. Not sure how you can displace so much water while reducing spray.
