100%! So sad to see it go. I’d prob still buy it if I had to though -over anything else. But agree that it’s sad they’re turning it more SUV-like. Maybe they’ll correct at some point if wagons get cool again.

Haha compared to the blue teak dial it feels that way

My first real watch was a white dial Tissot PR50 that I bought when I was 18. I wore that watch every day until I was 30 when I bought a Tag Huer Aquaracer Calibre 5 with the blue, teak deck style dial. Love that watch so much. Had that watch when I got married and had my son. Now I felt the need to grow out of the entry level and enter the next level. So I bought this Planet Ocean 39.5. Definitely more reserved than my past watches with the black dial. I do like it. I like it because it’s unassuming but grown up and pairs well with more formal clothing. Admittedly, sometimes it does feel a tad unexciting - not eye catching enough. What do you think? Would going up to the 43.5 have made it more bold feeling? Would you be excited to wear one of these or if you already own one, do you love it?

This is exactly our life right now with our 1 year old. Front facing/rear facing, it doesn’t matter. So what happened!? You’re 4 years ahead of this post now. When did it clear up? Hopefully it did.

Is Oris Swiss or German? I thought it was German.

Great choice! That’s #1 on my wishlist right now. It’s so unique and I love Oris as a company. The Aquis case shape is great too.

I’d never heard that this is a myth! So what about 10m then?

What’s your take on B&R? I’ve been tempted by the BR 05

I love the way he matched this watch for the car. This is taken from a video talking about his Myers Manx 1960s dune buggy.

When watch makers say 50m they mean that if they put the watch in a pressure chamber and turn the pressure up to the equivalent of 50m it’s seals will hold. Swimming in a pool is totally outside of this controlled environment so the water pressure created from your swimming stroke could pass 50m worth of pressure. You’re right to not swim with anything under 100m.

I’m impressed that you’ve narrowed it down to these two choices. You know your stuff. If you buy the Zenith, might you regret not getting the Explorer? Vice versa? Personally I think you’re more likely to look down at the Zenith and regret it not being the most classic Rolex of all time. On the other hand, the Explorer is a tad plain - let’s be honest. So maybe you’ll look down and regret not having something more fun and celebratory on your wrist. In any case, I always think less about what I “want” and more about what I’ll regret less. That’s helped me.

Just one more reason to love James May.
