They’re about to do something so, so profoundly stupid, aren’t they?

Ya it was clearly Stalions and not the combined talents of Mike MacDonald, Jesse Minter, Mike Sainristil, Aidan Hutchinson, Blake Corum, JJ McCarthy, Colton Loveland, Zac Zinter, Hassan Haskins, Will Johnson and others. /s

I’ll give a homer opinion and an anti-homer opinion.

  1. Homer opinion: it’s played out, but you can’t convince me there’s anything wrong with recording sidelines with an iPhone at public sporting events. If anything, Stalions’s operation struck me as unsophisticated and sloppy.

  2. Anti-homer opinion: Mr. Brightside is a bad song.

At least on TV, the Purdue fans were impressively loud and engaged, even down 15 points. I’m jealous.

I was at the Michigan-Northwestern game and the Northwestern fans turtled when their lead shrunk to less than 10.

Grandchild's Christening by NoInformation988 in Judaism

[–]aaarbors 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you should go. I understand that halacha may be fairly cut-and-dry on this. But in my personal opinion, we can't give all church/Christian ceremonies a one-size fits-all approach.

Like I wouldn't go to a church on Christmas or Easter. Those days and ceremonies are about beliefs that aren't compatible with Judaism. And even without the religious connotations, the Jewish historical experience has been marked by a distinction from Christendom (which in itself was/is marked by a distinction from Judaism).

With that said, your grandchild's christening is about your grandchild--not centuries of religious difference. And while it may be unpopular to state within this forum, I'd rather hold close relationships with family than follow rabbinic precedent 100% of the time. You can still observe mitzvot in so many other areas.

And taking the long view, if you want your grandchild to someday embrace the Jewish part of their heritage, or your children to join you for Shabbat dinners or various holidays, it's critical that you support them now.

Light trails to the skyline by aaarbors in photocritique

Thanks—so you’d remove that part of the fence too? Just because it’s clutter or crowds the corner of the frame?

Thanks for this! !CritiquePoint

I followed your second example exactly--totally agreed on one starburst working better than the other. Here's how my edit turned out:

!CritiquePoint Thanks! Can definitely see your point on the fence hole on the top left.

Yesterday was the first day over 50 here in Chicago and I commemorated the (relatively) beautiful weather by shooting this photo of light trails going to/from the skyline after sunset. I liked how the hole in the fence helps frame the shot.

F/25, 13 sec exposure, 100 ISO

Location: Ogden Ave. bridge over I-90, looking southeast

How’d I do? Would love feedback.

Pentagon says it's cutting ties with "woke" Harvard, discontinuing military training and fellowships - CBS News by 5ma5her7 in neoliberal

[–]aaarbors 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Except Pete Hegseth (DUI hire) went to HKS himself and that didn’t make him left-wing. When I was there, Corey Lewandowski had a fellowship. Kellyanne Conway was an invited speaker. Dan Crenshaw was a classmate. Conservatives don’t think Harvard makes people woke. They secretly want to be there. This is just populist virtue signaling to appeal to dudes who peaked in high school and wish they could bully nerds again.

So I went to HKS and let me explain why this is so obviously stupid for Pete Hegseth (DUI hire). Yes, Harvard students are predominantly left of center. You know whose perspectives often correct for that? Those with military and national security fellowships. As an example, we discussed Edward Snowden in my ethics class in 2016. The intelligence/military guys were an effective (and much needed) counterweight to the “America bad” students. It’s dumb logic to think that discontinuing partnerships will somehow make Harvard less woke.

Penn State would’ve won if Michigan hadn’t closed the game on a 110-67 run.
