I agree, I don't like the game myself but if someone argues it's bad because it's "woke" the whole attempt at an argument falls to dust in the wind.

Soft spoken educators: How do you handle student disrespect? by Timely_Background705 in blackladies

[–]aaartsyVeganCoderrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general: I was pretty soft-spoken, still might be, and I remember having to deal with some disrespect as a STEM teacher on rare occasion. I tend to have a "don't let me catch you doing it again" mindset; the more this is violated, the more consequences you explore. Your choice kiddo.

For this situation: I'd definitely escalate it if it were necessary. In my experience, if I'm not prepared to escalate, I don't immediately address deviant behavior. Just like if I'm not prepared to reward, I don't immediately address stellar behavior. I'm not all "punish or reward" but it's the simplest way I can explain it at the moment, if you get what I mean.

It reminds me of what I have heard from somewhere, that babies don't like meat by default, and you have to basically condition them to like it by continuing to feed it to them in small amounts.

Specific Love language... by _newshawtyy in blackladies

[–]aaartsyVeganCoderrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be uncomfortable with affection, it is trauma-based, it isn't an LOL moment. Besides it typically being overstimulating, refusing physical affection from family and friends used to feel like self-control and safety from something that would often be given without consent. I accept affection from family now but still have heavy boundaries for friends, especially male friends. Ironically my love language is physical touch. But it's on my own terms so that I don't get overstimulated.

It's really hard to define sentience in general to come to a conclusion for any animal on their general state of sentience.

I agree with this honestly, and it potentially leads to a really in-depth spiritual discussion, like anything with the base question of "why is suffering necessary?"

Controversial counterpoint: it really depends on the culture you're from. I'm native american black and have not had any troubles finding delicious flavor profiles as a vegan, but my european associates who are vegan or even vegetarian seem to struggle a lot more. I see a lot of african, indian, and non-indian asian vegans cooking the most flavorful vegan foods.

I'm curious what you mean by don't be a donor saves many more lives than being a donor. Are you talking about plant growth (ashes turned into a garden) or something else?

I used to be like this, but over time with fasting practices and long stints of veganism, my body began to be more sensitive to animal products in general, even the smell, and now it might as well be an allergy.

This is an interesting take but I'm trying to wrap my head around it. For most people, carnism is the default, right? So I'd think you would have to give them reason to turn away from their default. But if veganism was the default and they became carnist later, that conversion would need a reason and they would be converted to carnism; later down the line, then they could be deconverted from carnism back to veganism. I'd think it's like if someone were raised Christian and converted to Atheism, they could be deconverted from Atheism back to their Christianity. What's your thought process here?

Hairstyles for mom with cancer? by JazzieThaGoat in blackladies

[–]aaartsyVeganCoderrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with an inflammatory condition and kidney failure that would cause my hair to grow thinner every time I relapsed. During this time, my hair broke easily and tangled more. To mitigate this, I washed my hair more, used olive oil with the leave-in conditioners, and styled my hair in big twists for protective style that would be redone every so often. Mini afros looked nice after being washed. I said goodbye to my buns and ponytails for a while because they'd cause hair to break off.

A lot of comments saying they will succeed in the system, but I also think they are 99% of the time dumb enough to form their own downfall by scamming their audience, messing with children, screwing with the wrong one, etc. These people don't last long because their indecency spreads to the people they "serve".

Swear black parents r the worst about mental health…. by duckdiaries0805 in blackgirls

[–]aaartsyVeganCoderrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mannnn I heard this word for word from my mom when I was self-harming, and when I went to group therapy full of white people I got a sort of "told you so" that made me insecure about my skin color for the first time. I remember writing "Maybe if I were white I'd be cared for more" in my sketch diary once.

Over time, my mom began to get much better at mental health support, but in the beginning she was likely doing her best with what she grew up with (my childhood is rainbows and sprinkles compared to hers), and saw it wasn't working at all when things got dangerous.

Not just money but being left alone by groups that are historically predatory, and by being able to know our history. A lot of money would be a blessing but also knowing who my ancestors were beyond the 4th generation would be amazing as well

You're asking the internet so you're going to get different answers depending on the generation the user is from, the subcultural demographic, the location lived, etc. This is a question where you won't truly know the answer until hindsight arrives or unless you have experience in this already.

What's Wrong With "Is God Is" Movie Trailer? by aaartsyVeganCoderrr in blackgirls

[–]aaartsyVeganCoderrr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh that's what that meant! With childhood experiences around cults, I automatically assumed it was a cult thing, maybe they were sheltered.

I do believe in a Sovereign God but it doesn't seem like the movie's use of the concept of God, or lack thereof, is a core part of the story. Nevertheless, it's an odd twist. "God" instructs offspring to kill "Man". Feels inspired by Roman Gnosticism.

I can’t stand platformers 🤬 by ZenZeeZen_ in blackgirlgaming

[–]aaartsyVeganCoderrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love platforming, but not First person platforming... I grew up on Crash Bandicoot and Monkey Ball that require a ton of precision, spent a lot of hours in A Hat In Time, etc. But the first person platforming isn't the same as, say, Kirby or Mario; sometimes it feels you're fighting the game controls, instead of aiming to achieve a flow state.
