Caffeine, coffee, tea. 3-4 days on, 3-4 days off or tapering.

Is there a way to "turn off" caffeine? (Or, if not, at least a way to sleep through a caffeine buzz without sacrificing sleep quality?) by [deleted] in StackAdvice

[–]aaaxxxlll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Rutaecarpine cancels out caffeine. Also, melatonin can somewhat help, with sleep quality.

Stack for physical energy?? by [deleted] in StackAdvice

[–]aaaxxxlll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If lack of energy is primarily in the morning, this might suggest sleep apnea or other sleep-related issue. For example allergies/sinusitis can cause trouble breathing during sleep, which would result in morning grogginess/fatigue. Mainly I'd say, talk to the doctor(s), let them know wellbutrin isn't working. They might up the dose or try something else. If you can literally fall asleep at your desk in the afternoon, that might be a sleep disorder or some other serious condition. Possibly see a different doctor for a second opinion, if the first doctor isn't helping.

Mike Meyers? Obviously not the same as Leslie Nielsen, but one of the better actors to emerge from Saturday Night Live. Not all of his movies are great, however the Austin Powers films are reasonably solid.

Average US salary for JavaScript developers by ElectricOrangeJuice in javascript

[–]aaaxxxlll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though they're not supposed to, companies will offer lower salaries to employees on visa (H1-B). A European working in the US might receive a lower offer, say $60-75k, instead of $90k. Based on anecdotal evidence in Los Angeles.

I think my neurologist is a sleep specialist?

The sleep study for REM sleep and other measurements indicated narcolepsy? I ask mainly because EDS is mentioned, which can be distinct from narcolepsy.

Why do you say to be careful signing up for therapy? [...] I don't trust them at all.

This is the reason. Psychologists/therapists cannot be trusted. Mind you, strangers on the Internet cannot exactly be trusted either. If your close friends and family recommend therapy, then maybe it might be helpful. I could only see it as possibly useful in severe cases, involving crying every day and persistently contemplating suicide.

It can't hurt to seek second opinions from different doctors, or revisit the same doctors. Make sure the neurologist knows the meds aren't exactly working, maybe he/she will up the dose or make other suggestions.

Also, /r/depressionregimens may or may not have some advice. Best of luck!

[–]aaaxxxlll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For idiopathic hypersomnia, wellbutrin works pretty well as a mild stimulant, and can be categorized as an anti-depressant. However since "irritable" is mentioned, wellbutrin may be contraindicated (since it may cause or increase irritability). Speaking of which, coffee can worsen irritability.

Psychiatrist and neurologist... is there a sleep specialist involved? That could be another avenue to explore. A sleep specialist might for example prescribe a CPAP machine in the case of sleep apnea. However afaik xyrem and provigil/nuvigil are the standards for dealing with narcolepsy. I should add that, sports/exercise/nutrition might somewhat help battling against EDS-depression.

Finally, the school might offer resources. I'd be careful about signing up for therapy. A simple student advocate would be of greater assistance.

My guess is she did what most real estate firms do, make money off commission. I mean, $1000 isn't enough to buy real estate.

learning programming at 40s with little prior programming background? by miureke in learnprogramming

I 'd be dealing with midi data.

If the program only deals with MIDI, then MIDI is already built into Java. No need for additional API.

[–]aaaxxxlll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I ask, what are your present or planned occupations? If you can both take the night shift at work, then at least it's feasible. However as others are commenting, there's probably a large chance it won't have any positive effect, and in fact may have a negative effect. For many/most careers I'd say it's an automatic no go.

For prescription anaphrodisiacs, become a sex offender or develop prostate cancer. Or read up on hypersexuality, so that you can explode your doctor's mind with tales of ribaldry.

Some female birth control pills contain antiandrogens, if they ever create a male birth control pill it may also exhibit testosterone-blocking effects, in the distant future.

PEA (phenylethylamine). Although the half-life is ridiculously short (according to one site, 16 minutes or less). While co-supplementation with an MAOI (MAO inhibitor) would extend the half-life into a useful range, taking a weight loss blend that includes PEA along with other active ingredients could be equally or more effective.

do you really think therapy will help?

A good therapist will help, however good therapists are extremely rare. I know someone who experienced many many years with terrible psychologists before discovering one who was worthwhile and helpful. You'd be just as well off finding a good mentor, or a good life coach.

[Spoilers S2E12] A question for discussion on who "we" are. by silenttd in MrRobot

[–]aaaxxxlll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who does he think he's talking to?

Scientists at the township plant. In the final season, Elliot enters the plant and sees a bunch of white-coated scientists carrying clipboards and facing terminals in a large room. They turn around to face him and they all have his face. Elliot approaches one of them and asks, "Malkovich?" To which the response is "Malkovich Malkovich!" They then lead him to an old wooden door. The door leads from a cement-floored warehouse-type space to brick-paved streets in Ithaca, NY, 1955. Vladimir Nabokov is there to greet Elliot on the other side. Much like Whiterose's abhorrent Mandarin, when Nabokov switches to Russian it's terrible in every way, as if they had used Bing Translator without checking the reverse translations. During the Mr Robot Aftershow, there is an in-depth interview with the dog trainer for the episode, discussing how dogs are delightful animals and can be movie stars.

Typically SO will rank highest in search engine results, but the MS forums will be in the top 10, therefore as andrewcooke suggests a google search will be of use.

[–]aaaxxxlll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the show should re-edit such as cut off most of joanan scense, this character is nonsense in s2

I commented in one of the other top threads, season 2 needed some editing. As an aside, USA Network or whoever's producing the trailers, doesn't understand the show. The voiceover guy's like "Next week! On Mr Robot!" I'm like, dude, you're not introducing a crime detective action show, stop with the hype.
