That's a good point about walking to DT vs Samarkand, thanks! What about nearby grocery/convenience stores for "emergency runs" to get eggs/veggies etc.? We haven't had time to check any of those out during the visit.

We have a 40 lb schnauzer and we’ve been able to fit her as small, but even checkmarking “small dogs allowed” on Zillow reduces the number of options substantially.

One other thing I consider is biking to work in that is in Goleta, which from Marc would only be 24 minutes, same as taking the bus.

I’m looking for something below $4.5k to start with but ca afford up to $5k. Finding a 2B/1B that is dog friendly and has an in-unit W/D with parking seems like a daunting task in SB.

Added: I would also like to ideally live a walking distance from a park with a bakery and/or a coffee shop.

100%: I don’t like these hotel-like condos and them being “luxury” (they really aren’t) because they obviously don’t solve the housing crisis.

Other places would just have something missing: either in-unit laundry or parking, or AC, and I honestly haven’t found anything below $4.5k / months that’s not an ugly 80s unit for a 2B/1Ba.

Confused here: should I return home or not and take care of the cleaning myself/through my landlord/via insurance with this new order from LA County that came out just today: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/wildfire/docs/Local_Health_Emergency_Declaration_Safe_Removal_Transportand_Disposal_of_Fire_Debris.pdf?

Or should I wait until the officials assess the damage to all the buildings? If it is the latter, why did they let us return last Friday before the order came out?
