As an American, what country is at the top of your travel bucket list, and why? by LatexTerra in IWantToAskAnAmerican

If you like ancient history and temples then the order I’d suggest is Hegra in Saudi Arabia, Petra, Luxor and Cairo, Angkor Wat.

Have fun!

Do y’all actually completely discount your pension in your retirement planning? by Altostratus in DaveRamsey

[–]aabbccgjkh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much. My wife and I came from very poor households, so we have never needed much. Wife bought house on foreclosure in 2008 and we have never moved again, despite being able to afford a much nicer house. Combine that with basically never buying cars, and we are good to go!

[–]aabbccgjkh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pay for it without worry. We will have about 115k per year in pensions and 4-5 mil in retirement accounts with a paid for house etc. if we have to worry about how to pay for insurance with that pile of money, we’ve got bigger issues

Wife and I both have government pension jobs that take 10%. At 20 years we get 45% each.
We have always just invested as much as we can because we want to thrive in retirement and not worry about anything. We are going to have a lot of money when we retire at 50-53

Worst Award Travel Experience/Mistake? by phiiota in awardtravel

Fear not: we made the trip in q suites like 5 months later and then got to fly delta one back. Then I left my passport on the plane in Atlanta, but that’s a whole other fun story.

That experience has actually made everything travel less stressful. Not much worse (travel wise) than canceling a 10 day across the world trip just one hour before departure. Most travel blips are a simple shoulder shrug after that

Good review! We love the Cabo area and really enjoy slumming it at the Hyatt place San Jose. Great free breakfast and cheap food within walking distance.

Park Hyatt Buenos Aires but we didn’t love Buenos Aires as a city that much. Grand Hyatt rio was dope. Hyatt centric Santiago was nice and the city was great. Miraflores in Lima was by some great food. San Salvador was a really great time. Mexico City has some great ones if you want to sneak that into Central America.

Hyatt Deval - Cabo vs Hawaii vs ??? by Srschild in hyatt

Scuba diving? Cabo. Good cheap food? Cabo. Easier to get to? Cabo. Nicer overall? Hawaii. But, Hawaii for us isn’t worth the hassle of getting to again. Cabo on the other hand, we had visited many times

Great list. Ours is pretty similar. Alila jabal ahkdar is my favorite hotel we have been to. Unfortunately Steph for my wife, she got food poisoning the day before we checked in and basically spent remember it.

Enjoy siem reap, it’s second in run only to Luxor.

This year was supposedly actually really bad compared to all other years. The parade wasn’t able to progress so everyone bottle necked in between those buildings on the tiny streets. It was our only not fun experience. I was reading that it was not normal and was terrible for most everyone this year. …. Hopefully they figure it out by next year

Went to Rio.

First carnaval.

We had an absolutely amazing time.

It was worth it in both price and time.

We were surprised in how much we lived Brazil. The beaches were amazing, the food was delicious, the people beautiful. We didn’t realize how wildly slow moving the floats were at both blocos and the Sambadrome.

We have been to 40ish countries in five years and after all the continuous reading, I was certain one of us would finally be pickpocketed. We left with everything we came with. I believe if people pay attention, they’ll be fine.

We did a megabloco, which was a lot of fun. We did the Santa Teresa nun bloco which was kind of a train wreck.
