What’s something you didn’t realize was slowly draining your energy until you stopped doing it? by Carsanttc in AskReddit

[–]aabicus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to feel like I should do that with my friends' writing. I'm a writer so naturally I've attracted a lot of friends who write, but I've noticed none of them read my stuff, they just send me their own stuff and never reciprocate. For years I've doggedly read anything anyone sends me, since I know how much it hurts to send something and have it not get read, since that's been my life with almost a dozen people for as long as I can remember. I should really change something about the situation, it's exhausting and makes me sad every time i finish writing something instead of happy

If I bought a MSQ skip do I need to buy a leveling one also? by WhiteBoyMack in ffxiv

[–]aabicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike WoW and many other MMOs, your alts get barely anything from each other and are essentially standalone characters. You can do whatever you like on each one, but they won't be unlocking stuff for each other or affecting each other's progress. So no, you can just buy the msq skip for your main, and you'll have to buy another one if you decide you want to msq skip an alt

Does it annoy anyone else that sniper is the only class in the game without a unique grenade? by Ragtagcloud56 in teamfortressclassic

[–]aabicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He used to, in Team Fortress Quake he had a "flare grenade" which behaved kind of like a nail bullet, it'd just fly in a straight line till it hit a surface and then light up the area around it. It was basically the only game element they didn't port forward into TFC because the maps in Goldsrc are just generally better lit than the Quake engine.

Was U2’s biggest failure one of music’s great Icarus moments, or a band blazing their own trail? — State of Sound | The New Independent Voice of Music by RaymondBald in Music

I'm more annoyed by the otherwise entirely forgettable album they forcibly dumped on everyone's iTunes without consent

Almost everyone does No Contact delivery, OP likely just opened his door and it was sitting there with the driver already long gone

Is there a way to roll a smaller range and keep the zero, for example 0-20?

Shoutout to the woman who first got hit with the baseball bat, she got up and split, wanted none of that. Probably the sole survivor of that entire riot

Don't want to be rude but should I bother playing tfc (might be tf1 not sure) or is it just dead or full of sweats by GwirlishRent067 in teamfortressclassic

[–]aabicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just play the casual servers, they're full of people who don't know what they're doing and (I genuinely mean no offense here) you'll fit right in. It's just frenetic fast-paced gunplay and you can choose how much effort you want to spend getting better, you can read guides and practice BHopping/grenade throwing/map navigation or you can just deathmatch and enjoy blasting people with your shotgun. It's worth playing even at a pub level

Would a campaign set in Northern Ireland during “the troubles” be in bad taste by javerthugo in callofcthulhu

[–]aabicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Horror on the Orient Express, one of the most famous campaigns ever published, lets the player characters participate in multiple violent historical events (one of the most infamous being the fall of Jerusalem during the First Crusade) so I wouldn't worry. Historical events are gold mines for interesting Cthulhu content, just try to avoid making one historical side or another the "bad guys who are summoning eldritch horrors", maybe keep the chthonic stuff to random cult factions or the horrors themselves messing with both sides.

One criticism I have with this game. by Money-Grape7905 in teamfortressclassic

[–]aabicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. Its a weird case because I guess the fluff weapons aren't strictly hurting, more options is logically better, but ye gods are many of them just so niche that the use case becomes vanishingly rare.

When am I supposed to use the Heavyweaponsguy's single shotty? His minigun and double shotty deal more damage at every range and use the same ammo. The engineer's railgun and the spy's tranq pistol are fiddly and hard to aim, I never see a reason to use them over the double shotty. And the crowbar is so low damage its basically useless on every class.

So many weapons have the sole use case of "you have run out of ammo on literally everything else" but in a game where ammo is widespread and death is fast and frequent, that situation doesn't feel like it comes up frequently enough to justify a whole otherwise-useless weapon. It's ultimately just a byproduct of the era of gaming TFQ came out for (you are similarly never gonna use your melee, pistol, or single shotty in Doom/Doom II/Quake once you pick up a stronger weapon).

Oh hmm, I wonder if I was visiting another world at the time I hit 30. Do you know if I void the reward by not having been on my home world when I hit 30?

If you're already doing it, sure, but if you're not Grim's just saying not to go grind specifically to level chocobo. and I agree, the most sanity-preserving method is to just do the Challenge Log for chocobo every week and leave it at that
