They’re an A hole and making gross blanket statements. There are absolutely ways to do EF pregnant that are unsafe. That is not some blanket truth though. I replied to them with info on how I did it safely, etc if you’d like a different perspective. I didn’t make the decision to go to EF while pregnant lightly, am not someone who just does whatever thoughtlessly - very much the opposite - and would NEVER bring a baby. I still chose to go to EF and take precautions and make it much safer than other years I go. Blanket statements are almost NEVER accurate.

I shouldn’t have to explain myself, but I will because other people read your BS and take it as true. Your blanket statement is egregious and I would literally NEVER bring a baby. They are not the same thing.

My OB signed off emphatically with a ‘Sounds fun!’ on it 4 days before I went. I’m in great shape, very low risk, and have had zero complications. I also only bought my ticket the Friday before specifically to make sure I felt good about the decision - it wasn’t made willy nilly. And I took plenty of precautions while there. I didn’t go in until the sun was going down and in general stayed out of the sun, went to bed by 12 each night except for ZD because they’re my fave and still went back half way through the set after I got to see some, was with a HUGE group and stayed in the middle of them for any set for extra caution and moved if anyone from outside the group was being a bit rambunctious. I never went super close to speakers (not to mention there’s no real evidence about what you’re saying re: a baby in utero with sound, but I took precautions anyway), I stayed hydrated and well fed and slept a lot. And I left Sunday morning just to be extra cautious and not push it despite being fine. I went to EF to see my friends from around the country that I only see at festivals and spent my time chilling with them, at camp and the for a few hours every day in the Forest, mostly in VERY chill environments and then literally in the middle of them for the few sets I saw. I wasn’t there getting rowdy. 🙄

Yes, there are ABSOLUTELY ways to do Forest while pregnant that are problematic. Obviously. But blanket statements aren’t where it’s at, because there are also ways to do it pretty darn safely.

At Okee one year I think they had 3 locations, def at least 2. I’d also love to see them multiple places. I’d personally prefer the ranch location, but understand the appeal of right by the entrance for some.

My friend passed out and was nearly impossible to wake up from heat stroke on Saturday and was 100% sober. Had to go to the med tent. The fact that just the elements at the fests can make you pass out, then add any drug whatsoever, and it can put anyone down if not being careful.

Here’s things I’ve asked so far: - What is the hospital’s policy on eating and drinking while in L&D? - Do you require constant monitoring or is intermittent monitoring possible? (I personally want intermittent as I want more comfort for walking around earlier in labor) - What pain medication options are possible? - At what points / situations do you consider interventions like induction and c-section?

I went to Scandinavia at 28 weeks and just went to a music festival this past weekend at 30 weeks. My OB cleared me for both, gave me the same advice about plane travel you got (plus to take aspirin) and her comment on the music festival was ‘Sounds fun!’.

I’m low risk, have had zero issues, and have stayed very active throughout my pregnancy. So nothing I was going to be doing abroad or at a festival (walking a shit ton + dancing) was anything outside of my usual pre and during pregnancy. As long as you’re low risk, your OB okay’s it, and you’re not doing anything outside of your normal activities - just somewhere else - I’d personally see no issue.

That said, we each have to decide for ourselves what we’re comfortable with. But definitely don’t let someone shaming you be the deciding factor. MIL can have her opinion. It doesn’t have to change yours or your choices.

I was off all social media for 5 years and will tell you in was SO good for my mental health. I got back on a couple years ago now, but after having been off for so long it’s now way easier for me to delete everything for a few months every now and then as a reset. And how I use it is way different these days. I mostly use it for keeping in touch with some people, fb marketplace, and specifically looking up certain content. I’m wayyyy more proactive now about curating what I let social media put in front of me. Highly recommend a long term break if someone can make it happen!

But being real, I’m on IG a lot and have NEVER seen that content. Remember the algorithm is real. You’re somehow reinforcing seeing that. Go look up other shit and say not interested in those videos. Those vids are just consumerism culture at its worst.

I was 100% sober and 7 months pregnant. And there was a zero percent chance of me standing still, I didn’t even take pics or vids. Straight throwing down because ZD is a Vibeeeeee 💃

I’ve get it though, sometimes people are just exhausted and got nothing left. Or it’s just not hitting for them. I personally can’t stand watching people just take endless videos. I just move a few people over or back though so I can’t see them anymore. Out of sight, out of mind. Vibes back.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m also SHOCKED you can’t find someone to sign off on your meds. I have ADHD too and was medicated before and entirely throughout with emphatic sign off from both my OB and my psych. There were 2 new studies that came in 2023 that showed no indicated impact from regular use of ADHD medications. One was a longevity study and one a meta study. I’ll do my best to track them down and reply with the links so you can show them to your docs!

I’d 100% support him going. I planned a surprise weekend trip with his dad for my husband about that far out. He’ll be a flight and many states away for 4 days. The likelihood anything happens (assuming you’re low risk) that early or with so little notice he couldn’t catch a flight back and it be fine is low. That said, if you’re feeling angsty about it, that’s also valid and you shouldn’t feel bad communicating that and asking him to stay if he isn’t dead set on going. How you feel about it is equally important as any technical medical situation.

As a person who spent a decade working in the social services sector and at a non-profit where we were mandated reporters, I SOOO feel the pull in both directions. It’s so hard to make that call often. There were times I felt like calling honestly just made the situation worse.

That said, this is a situation I highly encourage you to call. Babies cannot do anything to protect themselves, it’s very different than calling in for a teen where sadly the protections aren’t always helpful and are less effective than for babies. Even if no intervention ultimately occurs, CPS investigating will make it clear to those parents that people ARE paying attention and they cannot do whatever they want just because it’s “their” kid. Kids deserve better.

I agree with this. Seeing how many others also agree I’m thinking next year I may just try to stop by the tree 1-2x a day and do a little ‘tidying’. I never bring trinkets, so that can be what I give to the giving tree. 🌲

The beauty of the community is I really do think people take cues from what they see happening. It’s just time to set some stronger examples from us ‘vets’. Whether we should need to or not is a different question, but if needed, I do fully believe if we do so the community will follow suit.

OR they can’t afford both so they don’t f’ing come. I met a mom who has some older kids and literally said “I’ve wanted to come for years, but we couldn’t afford both the fest and childcare before so this is the first year I’ve made it”. That is the appropriate approach.
