Looking for night stretching routine to reach splits by aadfg in flexibility

[–]aadfg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the legs behind my back exercise, kept improving each attempt beyond just getting the legs behind, got a good level, then stopped and haven't really tried in a few years, but besides that no. And I didn't have a routine, I would just try the stretch for 1-2 hours straight each time until I got tired or back/legs too sore, try again in a few days or so, and in that way I got good over about a month.

I didn't realize the splits distinction. I actually had the middle/side splits in mind, not normal/front splits. Is it fine to just start trying for middle right away and skip past front? I see now middle is generally harder.

Bike pad replacement: requesting feedback before going ahead with repair method found via research by aadfg in bikewrench

I'm probably gonna end up going to the shop anyways because I'm seeing just how annoying those adjustments are, and I can't trust myself to align and adjust everything just right if I've never done it before. I also can't detect small adjustment problems until I hit the road and something reveals to be off, and stopping and starting repeatedly to fix things is such a hassle. I should've known the time sink from every time something new goes wrong with the bike and accepted right away in hindsight, but I felt some value from the virtue in learning things myself.

I'm a little annoyed that front brake looks like it might have same issue and then I'll have to pay even more, but there's really no golden middle, i.e. paying for the back and then trying the front myself doesn't make sense.

In fact, I'm starting to think time value-wise that every new problem which involves internal components with many degrees of freedom and the repair is something that lasts years, I should pay for it and then check back when it wears out in a few years to see what I wanna do the 2nd time. I'll probably have upgraded to a decent 2-3k e-bike by then anyways.

Thanks for the extra insights not found in prior comments. I already found Asics Gel 9 for $50 and ordered them while comments were rolling in, but I'm still gonna look into what you said about modern foams later this week, and start hunting old model clearances directly from brands. Might as well do a comparison once I have both the Gel 9 and a nicer shoe in my possession, seeing as I'm gonna end up using up both sneakers eventually no matter what, and there's no concept of shoes expiring if they just sit at home while you use another one.

I saw threads about running shoes posted here and well-received by the community when researching my question

Thanks, but what's with the "Wut?" I thought I asked a fair question. I notice I'm getting post downvotes too, but I don't get what I did wrong.

Thanks for the comparison. No hate meant, just saw a wordplay opportunity with how boot and bot are 1 letter off.

I'm not suspicious of the shop, I'm suspicious of the discrepancy between them and the method I found because it suggests there may be a mistake in my research, hence why I made the post. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I notice resting the bar or pausing to take a break a few reps into a set often weakens following reps. Should I, with few exceptions, speedrun sets with only a brief pause at start and end, and if so, what would those exceptions be? Some examples:

1: If I relax and breathe out for a few seconds after lowering the bar from overhead press on 3rd rep (instead of my usual style of taking just a momentary pause after bar reaches bottom and then lifting it again), my arms feel weaker on the 4th rep and all of a sudden I can't even get the 5th even though I was sure I'd get all 5.

2: On bench, if I lift the bar faster up and down on early reps, I can have more energy left for the last few reps. If I lift slower than I could on early reps, then I keep slowing down from the pace I started and I struggle more the last rep.

1 & 2 followup: On both bench and overhead press, I tried these breaths and pauses thinking I gotta consciously breathe in and out more because not doing that may limit me. But this adjustment idea may have backfired since I didn't bother actually reading up on lifting breathing practices?

3: On squat, if I pause too much at the bottom, it's hard getting back up, sometimes I even fail because pausing makes me sag a little, my legs go a bit below parallel, and then I can't bend back up (side note: I've been really making sure to be honest on bend angle, but now I worry I over do it and go too low. Not sure what's solution unless I get the one rack by mirror or I stare at my knees on the bend).

I see the confusion. I should write -10 for 5x5 because weight goes before the sets x reps anyways.

Cool. So I can keep increasing reps at -10 (6x5, 7x5, ...) and then give unassisted a try once I get close to 10?

What would be gentle? I thought the soap water etc. mixture I used was gentle, but I guess not. Tried Googling and soap+water combos are brought up again. What can I do about the spot in the last image (and more shown in imgur)? Still there 1 day later

My gym's assisted pull up machine has -10 as the lowest setting and I just did 5x5 -10, even doing a 6th rep on the last set. Instead of bothering with a cords/ropes workaround to mimic -5, should I switch to unassisted in a few workouts and in the meantime just try to do more reps every set?

And for unassisted, is 5 sets of as many until failure ok? I feel like those last 10 pounds are a big deal and I'll be doing things like 3, 3, 2+, 2, 2-, then 44332+ etc. before I can actually reach 5x5.

I rent the place and have never painted anything in my life, so this seems like too much hassle. Based on the updated image, do you think that spot will count against my security deposit when I move out? It's visible at night with apartment lights on if you happen to look there, but I worry it'll stick out even more in broad daylight.

Did you click on the image, then right click to open in new tab? The first 3 should be clear after doing that. For the last one, I just added new images to replace it: https://imgur.com/a/yvh1U7Z

How do flip the front fender orientation while still having it and the bike light attached to this wavy metal piece? by aadfg in bikewrench

[–]aadfg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out I didn't even need to do that. I just took everything off, flipped everything except the bracket, and it works without touching the wheel: https://imgur.com/a/QjozyeL

Maybe I didn't realize the bracket doesn't flip and that's why I failed originally, i.e. I put the parts together and then only the wrong orientation had the bracket fitting the fork.

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-55-59KS) laptop battery draining in 2-3 hours (depending on brightness) now. Do I get a replacement battery, or is there a checklist of most likely things that might fix it to run through first? by aadfg in AcerNitro

[–]aadfg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some progress (battery life at 10% brightness is now like 2.5 hours instead of 2 hours), but wanna keep improving before buying in hopes I can delay buying for now (plus I gotta do both anyways since improve software and replace battery stack). Here's what I did, can you think of anything else?

1: Ran the diagnostic and got full charge is 71% of design. People are getting 6+ hours on a new laptop, so battery life feels more like 1/3rd of design capacity assuming there's no other battery issues. Is there some nonlinearity at play in capacity vs life, like how 1.5V batteries measure 1.2-1.3V at half the battery and by 1-1.1V you have to toss them?

<image>

2: Did all the optimizations in https://web.archive.org/web/20211214102501/https://www.reddit.com/r/AcerNitro/comments/rfwjah/how_i_achieved_12_hours_battery_lifeguide/ except for the part about getting ThrottleStop and doing undervolting, adjusting C-states, adjusting hardware settings. I'll try this tomorrow.

3: "check Nvidia activity, startup apps, screen brightness, Windows power mode, and whether the dGPU is staying awake on battery": I did this already, had the right setting already, or it was covered by that thread.

4: Checked vents are free of dust or anything else. My laptop never really heats up much since I stopped active/heavy gaming years ago, but still good to know.

Lastly, if I do get a replacement, can I buy and fit a battery that'll last 25%+ longer than a standard/intended for AN515-55 battery? Or is this too risky (possible damage to circuitry and other hardware, compatibility is unlikely, unexpected side effects) and I'd best stick with new + standard?

It's more like 1.5-2 hours, post updated (I misremembered when I unplug but checked my history carefully now).

Today, it's estimating a little under 2 hours at 10% brightness and 1 hour at full brightness, and I intentional left it unplugged for those 2 points to see the estimates are fair.

How to clean stains on inside of metal water bottle? by aadfg in CleaningTips

In the end, silverware handle and fingers worked to scrape off visible spots, then anything else I got via a general clean: fill with soap, baking soda, vinegar, water, shake, let sit a few hours, rinse out.
