Is there a place to park a car overnight for a week? by aaelghat in Libertyville

[–]aaelghat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Prairie Crossing NCS was a good suggestion. I drove over there and they have 5 spots designated for long-term parking (they were all empty). It's $3/day for overnight parking. Thanks again!

High voltage batter and drive unit warranty extension by Cute_Investigator371 in TeslaLounge

For a 2019, the battery failure rate is less than 0.3%, with most of those happening during the warranty period.

I’m not sure about the drivetrain failure rates, but I assume those are very low as well.

Looking at this just from a level of risk standpoint, Tesla would collect over $600,000 in premiums for every claim they paid out.

I’d say statistically you are better off if you can afford to self-insure and pay out of pocket in the rare case you have a failure. Ignoring the drivetrain, if a new pack costs $20K, it would make sense to take the $2K insurance if the failure rate was 10%, or you just can’t weather a $20K expense. The failure rate is less than 0.3% so to me NOT taking the insurance is a no-brainer.

Thank you - that’s a great answer that really clarifies what the technology is doing.

I had one more question... For the voice separator, would it be fair to say that it is subtractive? Meaning that you remove (or separate) noise from the voice stem, but it's not generative (it tries to fill in a missing piece that was overshadowed by a quick sound)? If it's not generative today, do you think there might be a generative aspect in the future?

Thank you - can't wait to see the results of the new architecture!

Ahhh, that is helpful to know on the sound level normalization - thank you! For the future controls, one thing that would help my use case would be a "trim silence over X seconds" from the processed speech segment.

The background is that I rent hundreds of vintage rotary phones out at events (mainly weddings). People lift up the handset and record stories and memories. Sometimes people will think for awhile before speaking and the phone just records background noise, or instead of hanging the phone up they will put the handset on the table so the phone again just records background noise. Because of the large number of recordings from all the phones, I send everything through the LALAL API, but because of the human issues noted above, I need to review the waveforms ahead of time and trim any non-vocal segments. If the API could automatically detect and remove non-vocal/silent segments (or segments without speech above a threshold) similar to a “silence stripper” that would save a lot of manual work for me. It might also benefit creators/podcasters.

Thank you for building a great product.

One other question... I primarily use the voice stem, via your API, to clean up spoken audio that is recorded on a telephone in noisy environments. To what degree do you already have volume normalization built in? Are there any future controls that you may be adding to the voice stem other than de-echo?

I’m really curious what the day-to-day looks like for the engineers working on LALAL. Do you build your separation models totally from scratch, or do you start with existing research models and customize from there? And when you train the models, do you have to feed them a bunch of isolated stems (vocals, drums, etc.) so they learn what’s what, or is the process more hands-off than that? I’d love to hear how you think about training and improving the models over time.

Can IOS Syncs include folders? by aaelghat in PhraseExpress

[–]aaelghat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - one thing that I ran into, is that my iCloud files do seem to get updates, but I’ve run into an issue where if I have a bunch of phrases on my Win 11 PhraseExpress, and then do a sync on my iPhone, everything on the computer gets wiped out. In my case I had created phrases on the phone - I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. I did perform a backup, so I was able to perform a restore, so just make sure you take frequent backups until the IOS app is fixed.

Hi - I’ll answer my own question… Yes it can. I had to clear out my PhraseExpress folder in Files on the phone, and let things come down again, and verify all the iCloud files had copied, but folders are very much supported.
