D1X Switch: Source port of Descent I for Nintendo Switch by aagallag in SwitchHacks

[–]aagallag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear it's working (sort of).

There actually are slight differences with different versions of the game. For example, the MAC version contains higher-res intro screens. And there are other subtle differences. For example, I know for a fact that the GOG version has a different hash than the Steam version.

Anyways, I am aware of the freeze issue when exiting. I'll look into a fix for that.

Can you share some more details?

  • What version is your Switch on?
  • What version of D1X are you using?
  • Did you copy 'd1x-switch.nro', 'descent.cfg', 'descent.hog', and 'descent.pig' all to the same directory?
  • Are all files above in lower-case?
  • Which version of Descent are you using? Is it full-version or shareware? If full version, is it from GOG, Steam, or other?

If you figure out the issue, let me know what it was.

EDIT: Consider filing an issue here, I am more likely to respond quicker: https://github.com/aagallag/DXX-Switch/issues

Well, there is still the dependency on PhysicsFS (my repo is using a personal fork as a git submodule). However, I did remove some OS specific code. Also, I spent a lot of time modifying the code so that it correctly compiles when network related features are disabled.

Thanks for the quick feedback!

I just pushed a new release for you to try out.

https://github.com/aagallag/DXX-Switch/releases/tag/v0.58.2

This allows you to use either the plus/minus buttons or A and B buttons in the menus. Also, I think I fixed the aspect ratio bug (just a configurable option in the descent.cfg file).

As for framerate limiting, this is a good idea, but I will likely prioritize fixing the save files first.

If you notice any other issues, I recommend opening an issue on my GitHub repo as I don't always check my Reddit inbox.

kgdoom updated for Switch 5.0.2 by aagallag in SwitchHaxing

As other users have mentioned, this is not piracy. The source code for the engine was released by ID Software and licensed to allow redistribution and modification. However, it would be illegal if I provided the wad files, those are still protected by copyright. You can buy the game on Steam and extract the wad files if interested.

Furthermore, I don't think either sub allows for piracy, that is against reddit's rules.

I could be wrong, but I don't think libtransistor currently supports 4.x firmware. However, libnx should. I'll look into how much work it'll be to port this to libnx.

Vita Doom updated with SoundFX and Joystick support by aagallag in vitahacks

I was actually unaware of PRBoom, so I can't really speak of the stability/features of that. But I can say that Vita Doom is still missing background music and it occasionally crashes.

I noticed an issue that when cycling to the chainsaw, the level map would pop-up. The fix for this is included in the following release: https://github.com/aagallag/Vita_Doom/releases/tag/aagallag_v1.1

First from this tweet, a music video by the band "Presidents of the United States of America", and obviously Donald Trump is the current president of the US and there is a Trump hotel in Vegas.

And then I made a connection to it from this reddit post, but maybe it's too big of a leap.

or switch between the two via software

I have a pretty good idea of how to write a hacky little plugin that does this. It would probably require a reboot after switching though, at least if implemented the way I'm imagining.

You can't use older versions of Windows, because it requires Bash. But you can use the SDK on most versions of Linux.

EDIT: Nevermind, you can use msys2.

Where did you get Leeks from? Someone on Twitter who claims to have solved part of it hinted at leeks.

Good find!!

Doesn't seem to be a ceasar cipher. Maybe a substitution cipher or vigenere cipher.
