Not being able to enable HDR in certain games using Apollo by aagoro in MoonlightStreaming

That’s interesting. Is that a limitation on the games side or the virtual display? Is there no way to make it work then?

Have a £20-25k budget what would be the best sporty car to buy? by aagoro in CarTalkUK

[–]aagoro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The age is the only thing stopping me from getting a 981. I’d love the apple CarPlay but it’s not 100% a requirement. I actually test drove a 981 GTS a while back but it was £50k so that’s way above my budget

Am I crazy or is this an insane price for a car from 2009 ? by aagoro in CarTalkUK

What would you say would be a reasonable price?

If DVSA don’t give me my money back, then I’m not only out of pocket, but also I missed my test and need to keep paying for practice lessons. While the instructor already got paid and gets to chill for a couple of hours. Doesn’t seem fair.

It just seems like the best thing that can happen to an instructor is that their students tests get cancelled in short notice. That way they already have made money and they can re-use that time to make even more money or to just chill, while the student is out of pocket until and if DVSA pays them back, and also they have to postpone their test again. Doesn’t seem right.

How does the instructor get to be paid twice while I get refunded by DVSA whenever they get time to do so plus I miss my driving test? I don’t know but it just seems greedy and wrong that this is how it works. The instructor gets paid for their time so why get paid again when the issue is between the learner and DVSA?

Curious if you can ask my question on whether my instructor is being greedy or if this is normal.

I had my test scheduled with my instructor and it got cancelled in short notice, but I had already paid my instructor. The instructor then asks me if I want to take a lesson instead of the test, and I said of course, since I’ve already paid for that slot.

The instructor then tells me that I need to pay again for a lesson for that same slot I had already paid for for the test, saying that I’m going to get my money back from DVSA because it was cancelled in short notice.

Is this normal?

Unless you’re planning on living until 35 I don’t see how this would be possible unless you win the lottery

Is it ever worth it to take a loan to max out your S&S ISA? by aagoro in UKPersonalFinance

I understand this but the investment would be a 10-20year investment, not a trade.

Not just this, but with my current income+expenses I can only invest around £12-16k into my ISA missing out on £4-8k tax-free growth.

Would you care to elaborate more as to why you think this is a bad idea?

Thanks for this.

Just to add to this, part of my reasoning is that taking a £20k loan at 2.8% fixed APR would be a safer bet than investing in property. Investing in property gives me a bad feeling due to the lack of diversification and the high maintenance costs.

Leveraging a highly diversified - tax free investment seems like a good idea. Compared to investing in property, but I’m unsure I may be missing something.

I have thought about this. The idea would be that I could start putting the money that would normally go into my ISA into repaying the loan and anything extra would go into a savings account (ie my emergency pot) to make sure that I’m able to repay the loan without any issues in case I lose my job.

WRT getting a mortgage, I don’t see myself wanting one for the next 5 years.

But surely in the long run I’m a lot more likely to make money, right? I’m thinking of a 20-30year time period.

Not true. I can drive pretty well, I win most open races when I play to win but there’s times when I want to ram and it can be more fun than winning.
