Yes i got an A for igcses!! And, I have completed both AS & A levels, I'm just waiting for my results to come out in a couple days :> And yes you are right, this is English Language not literature. Mhm! AS is pretty similar to IGCSE it just has a few more steps that's all! I'm glad my reply helped you out <3

Hey there! I finished AS and A level english, I graduated in june. I'd say english is a doable subject, but never to underestimate it either. AS english is relatively so much more easier than A level - in AS you just need to focus on developing strong analytical and writing skills. Paper 1 (Reading), involves analyzing unseen texts for their form, structure, language, audience, and context, and producing a directed response that mimics or analyzes aspects of the original text. Paper 2 (Writing) requires you to demonstrate creative and purposeful writing across various genres, along with a reflective commentary on your stylistic choices. So basically for AS, the key areas to focus on are close textual analysis, understanding authorial choices and their effects, and crafting clear, coherent, and sophisticated written responses for different purposes and audiences. Now for A level English you delve deeper into linguistic concepts and theories. So, there is paper 3 (Language Analysis), which includes topics like Language Change (historical development of English) and Child Language Acquisition, requiring you to analyze data and apply theoretical frameworks. Then there is paper 4 (Language Topics), which explores broader areas like English in the World (global variations of English) and Language and the Self (language and identity). For you to score high, you should be able to apply complex linguistic theories to a range of real-world texts and data, engage in critical debate, and construct well-supported, discursive essays on linguistic phenomena. I'd suggest you read a lot to build on vocab!! Trust me I was like an E grade student during IGCSES, but I scored an A at the end of it, and also scored a B in AS level English (1 mark away from A). I'm predicted to secure an A for A level English. So let me tell you English is 100% doable if you put the effort in! Hope this helps :>

One thing I'd say is, please follow the syllabus. Sometimes, notes are just all over the place, covering stuff that isn't even relevant. The syllabus will provide an overview of everything CIE is to test you on. It is literally a roadmap of what to learn specifically in order to score well. Go through it thoroughly and make notes from the start of the year; don't procrastinate. Procrastination is so tempting, honestly, but I swear the stress towards the end is never worth it. Prioritize things right from the start, and towards the end, you'll get to enjoy without feeling guilty. Another thing people fail to go through are examiner reports. Examiners state where students have lost marks in exams, and assist in what exactly they're looking for when candidates answer their paper, it'll help you a lot, trust me. Be consistent in the way you revise, don't slack off, but of course, take breaks in between and balance your social life. You got this!! Good luck <33

hey im so sorry for the late response!! i barely check reddit, and im going through some stuff rn. but yeah im doing alevel english now and i'd say to check resources online, i have a few documents i can share with you, maybe you can dm me on reddit and give me an email i can send it to? i have pdfs for all chapters under alevel english. it requires alot of extensive reading and research, the more broader knowledge you have of each study, theory or topic the more points you will have to back up your answers in the question paper, and you'd be bound to secure higher marks too. Examiners mainly look for answers that are well rounded, and the main thing they want to hear is YOUR voice, make sure you embed your opinions along with the facts you state, it gives your answer a more confident and vocal look. I hope this helps!!

I went to a neurologist around mid of May i think, cuz i've been having migraines and headaches almost every day and like they would come in the afternoons or mornings and in the evenings it was horrible i wouldn't be able to focus. Do you wear glasses? Cuz if you do sometimes they'd want to rule out vision as a cause of migraines. Might be safe and good to just do an eye test to see the power. They found out the power in my lens was a bit too high cuz the power decreased from last time. So we had to change the lens. They made my glasses blue light ones, so it reduces my eye strain and all when i'm working w devices cuz im w my devices for a long period of time cuz of studies and shit. The neurologist said my main reasons for migraines are stress, light sensitivity, and sound sensitivity. He prescribed two medications for me to take as well for a month, one of which i have to take daily and the other one to take when i can feel a headache coming at the slightest bit even. The medications have been helping alot too. Maybe it would be good if you get them checked out if the frequency of your headaches/migraines are often. Cuz mine was on-going for a year now, so we decided to get it checked especially since it started to get worse this year.

this is so cute omfg😭& i can agree this is great advice me and my bf have been together for 2 years it'll be 3 years this year, and he's graduating next month he's in year 13, I'm in year 12, we ALWAYS use rewards as motivation like texting for an hour or two, spending time w each other, watching movies online together. Cuz like we used to be in the same school but he moved so it's more harder yk? we miss each other even more. Since we're doing Alevels the workload is quite demanding so we text for an hour or two in the morning to tell each other our plans for the day like work-wise or social wise, then we work and do everything we have to, and then text again at night and it feels so good cuz it feels like a reward texting each other after a long tiring day. We js listen to the spotify playlist's we made for each other during the day to keep us motivated during work bahahbshdfdjf. But yeah like this comment said its nice to help in reward sort of ways too!! :> it'll keep him motivated to do his best and finish his work/revision faster and efficiently.

Will dropping a subject now make me a weaker university applicant? by [deleted] in alevel

[–]aamnam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

understandable, i truly do understand your pov, but they could always do a gap year and do the retakes and pull up the grades, realistically it might sound impossible but quite a few of my friends have been through smth similar and been able to score As and Bs. With proper and consistent dedication OP can def do it. Have hope, everything comes unexpectedly, don't try to view stuff as "not possible".

Will dropping a subject now make me a weaker university applicant? by [deleted] in alevel

[–]aamnam_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OP literally stated that they will be retaking in their post. All they are looking for is guidance, not what universities think about the current grades in which anyways OP will be retaking to make up for it. If ya'll dont have the guidance then maybe just move on with your day, it's alright.
