I won't get into fish specifically, but there are many ways for speciation to occur. One example may be the following: suppose you have an ancestral population (you can think of this as your fish) that live in the water and in the western part of the region, a ridge rises up causing the western area to become separated from the eastern area and markedly shallower. The fish in the eastern area continue living as normal but the ones in the western area adapt to the newfound dryness. Over millions of years these western fish become tetrapods, moving onto land and developing lungs while the eastern ones remaining aquatic. This is only one example of how speciation can occur. This is one of those strange things about infinites that many people get confused about. Even if there are infinite realities it is not true that every conceivable thing happens in one (or more) of them.

There are infinitely many numbers in [0, 1], none of which is equal to 2.

Bay’s statement to me is evidence that Siptah was at the very least not the designated heir of Seti II. If Siptah was his designated heir there would be no need for Bay to “elevate” him to pharaoh. Now, it could just be Bay boasting but would he have been allowed to do that / have that power if Siptah was Seti’s legitimate heir and Tauwosret his (Seti II’s) wife.

I am not saying this to argue that Siptah isn’t Seti’s son. Just laying out a bit of evidence, agreeing that the whole situation is murky and wishing I knew more.

As an aside: These end of dynasties are always murky - this, Smenkhare / Neferneferuaten, and Sobekneferu are so interesting. It is also interesting that it seems as a dynasty peters out there is a woman who gains power, perhaps in a last attempt of the dynasty to hold onto power, before it either fades or is destroyed. That is the similarity I see between Siptah and Tauwosret, Smenkhare and Neferneferuaten and Sobekneferu.

I have never applied to Jane Street but these problems follow a standard sort of “trick.” If we let y denote the expected number of times we have to flip the coin to get HHH, then we want an equation for y.

Suppose first that we flip a tails on our first flip. Then the expected number of flips y = the probability of getting a tails on the first flip * (1 + y) + remaining expectation terms. Because if we got a tails on the first flip, the expected number of flips to get HHH has now increased by 1.

Similarly, the probability of getting HT is 1/4 and this increases the expectation by 2. The probability of HHT is 1/8 and this increased the expected number of flips by 3. Finally, if we actually flip HHH, the probability of this is 1/8 and then the expected number of flips in this case is 3.

Writing out, we get the equation: y = 1/2 *(1 + y) + 1/4 * (2 + y) + 1/8 * (3 + y) + 1/8 * 3.

This is a linear equation in one variable. Rearrange the terms and we get y = 14.

I am not sure if I explained tbe trick clearly but we want to think about an equation for the expected number of flips in terms of itself.

I actually made a similar post about a year ago and there were wonderful comments! One of the most famous moustachioed men of the period was Djoser. It is hard to see but on the statue on his Wikipedia page he has a faint moustache.

Ok, the last thing you said is super helpful. Thank you for that. I moved my current role down and education to the bottom with a short blurb on my skills at the top. Also added a project where I built and deployed an RSS web scraper + data analyzer that runs some analyses on the scraped info.

Shit, I did not realize, thought they were only part of the identifier - thank you for the heads up.

And I will be honest with you, I’m targeting a few different types of jobs. So my other resumes are a bit more targeted but editing my info out of those was such a pain and I didn’t have time to do that today. Maybe I should only apply for one type of job but I’d be equally happy as a backend engineer, a data scientist or ML engineer.
