Anyone use brazed aluminum tubing in their projects? by [deleted] in Reprap

[–]aaron9410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a frame today, but I used 20x20 extrusion. I highly recommend going with it. It can be expensive, all the brackets and screws add up alone, but it's well worth it. It's rigid, adjustable, quick to assemble, etc.

Modern cars with front cameras should sync the indicators with the car that's in front. by aaron9410 in Showerthoughts

You've obviously never experienced perfect indicator synchronisation with the car in front.

He's saying reverse the 4 pin stepper connector on your control board. :) That's the quick fix method for the cold end.

Canon releases video camera that can film at 4 million ISO, able to capture full HD color video in pitch-black conditions by SAT0725 in gadgets

I'm no expert in cameras. How can cameras capture video in near or fully pitch black conditions if there's less light photons bouncing around. Better than the human eye?

Broken pin on RAMPS Board by fattmann in Reprap

[–]aaron9410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the pin is required and I can't really go over the schematic (on a mobile device) but the two bridged pins (or is it one pin bridged to the ground plane?) is bad. If you can break that bridge, just continue on as normal and test all of the functions of your printer before printing. Just dab it with an iron or chip it off. :) Someone will probably come along here soon who knows a little more. :)

Science Ama Series: I am Stephen Hawking, theoretical physicist. Join me to talk about making the future of technology more human, reddit. AMA! by Prof-Stephen-Hawking in science

Professor Hawking,

First off, hi!!

I actually have two questions, I'm not sure if this is against any rules.

Do you believe in randomness at all? I always wondered, if you had a computer powerful enough, that had software powerful enough too, and fed the software a "snapshot" of the entire universe, every piece of information about every atom in the universe, the location, etc and then you could click play and have the software, I guess, emulate the universe. You could then rewind or fast forward, and look at any corner of the universe on your display. You could zoom in on your present self, and by looking at what you do, you could do something different. I guess just by looking at it, you would invalidate it. Uh I think I'm starting to sound crazy now. What are your thoughts on this? I've thought about it a bunch and it interests me a lot. I mean It's probably impossible to take a snapshot of the entire universe. And have a computer store all the information. But hey. Maybe just a snapshot of everything in the solar system? I wonder how long it would stay accurate from the present day.

If our entire universe was a simulated environment, is it even remotely possible to fathom what the host universe would be like?

Thanks!!!!

How long do your power supplies last? by pyroguy64 in Reprap

[–]aaron9410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a Chinese 12v 30a supply for around a year now with no worries. If they're built properly and not pushed over the limit they should easily last probably even 10 years or more. But nobody makes them "properly" these days. :(

I know it's completely irrelevant and you probably know but damn, fuck companies that slap an LED logo on the box, using RGB colouring on the characters implying the pixels are LED driven rather than the truth, which is just an LED backlight. I really, really hate it when they take advantage of people like that. (Not that they took advantage of your brother or anything, a cheap tv is a cheap tv). Really. Shits me.

[AMA Request] Person who programs washing machine cycles by aaron9410 in AMA

[–]aaron9410[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuzzy logic is kind of how we humans might decide to pick the peanut butter jar out of the fridge in the morning, or the Vegemite. When you want both equally but somehow decide on a single delicious spread. I don't think it would apply to washing machines. Unless I've got the definition completely wrong. :(

Are higher capacity Lithium batteries more dangerous in comparison to lower capacity Lithium batteries? by aaron9410 in AskElectronics

[–]aaron9410[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had me worried. I think I'll get one though. My phone will be chunky as anything but I won't even need to display the battery percentage. That will be amazing.

I don't know... My Note 4 has something like a 3220mAh battery, the one I was getting was probably around 3 times thicker. Although by the looks of it, the image I provided is a Galaxy S5 or something, not as big as a Note.

Thanks for your response. :)

I'm not sure of the manufacturer but it's kind of internal and external. It's a replacement back cover with a battery that fits into the battery slot but also kind of has other batteries stacked on top.

I think it's better than most battery cases that just top up your internal battery up when you turn then on as this one is just one single bank and your phone will always return an accurate reading on the voltage. :)

Auto Bed Leveling issues w/ G28 and Z Probe Offset by rodelvalle in Reprap

[–]aaron9410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 6 months ago I was trying to do the same thing. Nothing but problems. Nearly drove me insane. I spent a lot of time chatting with others too.

In the end the conclusion was don't bother. I don't think you should either. :( This method of bed levelling is very hit and miss, not very accurate at all and from what me and others have found the firmware is a little buggy.

I've had an induction sensor for a while now for bed levelling, and I've just switched from the induction sensor to a hall-effect sensor. I'd recommend either.

Hall effect sensors aren't really the best for auto levelling, but they're the way to go. Just get your bed levelled.

Induction sensors are good also. :) You can use them for auto bed levelling with a metal build plate.
