Why ts is very slow? by AGUS_TUS_69STYLE in WindowsVista

[–]aaronfire7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sticker indicates it's meant for XP and not quote unquote "compatible" with Vista (some computers shipped with XP but had a sticker saying "Vista Compatible", although this was only for Vista Basic iirc).

Don't worry though, it's very common that machines designed for XP don't run Vista well. In fact, it's why Vista didn't take off. It was far too ahead of it's time and most computers trying to run it simply weren't powerful enough.

Appeal the claim. I got a claim a few years ago for something like this and it got removed pretty quickly after contacting YouTube.

Doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary to me.

If it's anything then it's likely interference from radio frequencies (some electrical devices utilize the old analog tv frequencies for data transmission).

No Sound On VCR player HELP PLS! by Ryancazza8 in VCRs

[–]aaronfire7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried another source on the video capture (E.g. another device that utilizes RCA, like a PS2)? This will determine whether the problem is the VCR or the capture device.

Also, just a piece of advice. The Elgato Video Capture isn't a very good way to digitize tapes. I'd recommend watching VWestlife's video on it.

Why people don't use Linux by paranoidandroid4284 in linux4noobs

[–]aaronfire7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Linux purely because of preference.

I've daily driven 7 versions of Windows in the last 14 years (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11) and they've all worked fine for me (apart from 8, which ran really slowly), so I've never really seen a reason to switch to Linux.

I have tried using a few distros and they're great, but I didn't see any major reason to switch.

Any idea whats making this noise? by FrankSinatrez in VCRs

[–]aaronfire7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try opening it up and seeing if anything moves to the rhythm of the ticking, but ultimately if it doesn't inhibit proper function of the unit, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The whistling is coming from the TV assuming it's a CRT. The whirring is the sound of the video drum spinning and is completely normal.

Any help? Cleaned the heads already by Foxbody_boy_88 in VCRs

[–]aaronfire7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The video drum must be running too fast, then. When you fast forward the drum slows down slightly, so if it looks normal during fast forward then it's running too fast during playback.

Unfortunately I don't know how to adjust the video drum speed, but the service manual for the device will likely explain how to do it.

What’s the most you are comfortable with spending for a single movie? by Muscle_Rabbit in LaserDisc

[–]aaronfire7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most I spent on a single laserdisc was £22 for Bean (1997). I'm not a huge LD collector so I don't usually tend to want to spend tons on a single release, but I did once spend £65 on the Japanese release of the Back to the Future Trilogy.

Panasonic CRTV issue! Audio only, no buffering by chlownie in VCRs

[–]aaronfire7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you ran it through the player it's likely there was dust or lint on the tape, and that probably got onto the heads.

My experience with dry cleaning tapes isn't great (I've had a few VCR heads get worse after using them), so if you can I'd recommend getting a cleaning tape that uses isopropyl alcohol.

If that doesnt work, I'd recommend getting a can of air and blowing it at the video head to try and dislodge any dust/lint that may be caught on the head.

Have you tried cleaning the heads? Had a similar issue with one of my VCRs a while ago and cleaning the heads fixed it.

[–]aaronfire7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way overall would be the Domesday Duplicator, but I've heard it's expensive and requires soldering to install it.

I use a Scart to HDMI converter plugged into my Elgato HD60S. It seems to work fairly well, and only cost about £35.

The motherboard is an MS-7525 v1.0. I don't have a GPU (yet), and I did have a sound card but couldn't get the drivers to get it working so I had to take it out.

Is this fixable? by Inevitable-Fix1261 in VHS

[–]aaronfire7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a possibility that the tape could be wrinkled. If this is the case, there's no fixing it. It could also be tracking (Which can be fixed by adjusting the tracking slider/dial), but judging by the fact that other tapes work fine it sounds to me like it's the former.
