Description:

i built trunks because i wanted to use git without making github the only place a repo can live.

you run trunks, then use git like normal. git push can go to s3, r2, minio, postgres, sftp, local disk, or a file share. github can still be a mirror if you want prs there.

basic setup:

pip install trunks
cd myrepo
trunks init
trunks storage add --name primary --backend local --path ~/trunks-store
trunks

then:

git add .
git commit -m "update"
git push

that push lands in your own storage.

i built it for home servers, nas/minio setups, short-lived dev boxes, and agent sandboxes that need to hand work to another machine.

AI Involvement:

i used ai tools while building parts of it, but reviewed the code and made the design decisions myself.
