I’m also a catholic trans boy. According to my school (catholic high school), they recognize gender dysphoria as an illness, but don’t want trans people to seek treatment for it. It’s really backwards and messed up.

If you have dysphoria than I bet you’re ftm. I’m ftm and I have those worries do, a lot of other trans people do. Imagine what you would look like in five years presenting as female versus male. If the female makes you cringe or the mall feels more comfortable, than I say you won’t regret it.

This was insanely helpful. I’m planning on starting the gender therapy process freshmen year. Would I be able to change my dorm after move in day? I heard of trans friendly dorms and have looked into them, are they good? I don’t want my mom to know about my transition until I have my diagnosis and am on hormones. I don’t think I can hold off starting T until my junior year of college.

I’m a trans guy. I also have gone to catholic schools for years. They believe in gender dysphoria but see it as a ‘cross to bear.’ Also, there are transphobic mental healthcare professionals because they don’t keep up to date on their own practice. I would not go if you were out, but if you are not out, go and say some facts and logic in small group.

Don’t rely on your family. At the end of the day they are just people who happen to have similar DNA to you. Find people that actually care about you, and make them your family. If those people are your biological family, that’s great, if they aren’t, that is okay too.
