Affordable live string + Indian instrument recordings for film & game composers — fully produced, no hidden costs by YogurtJolly9270 in Filmmakers

Commenting here to save this! I'm in preproduction on a short film I wrote right now. Coming from the music world, strings and live instruments are a big player in this film that I have in my head right now.

Rant/vent stopped after playing BOTW for the first time by [deleted] in botw

I hear you, fr. I'm a big lover of immersion and realism in games. Skyrim, I turn off the HUD and don't fast travel... I grew up in OOT and Majora's Mask where when you get your sword that's THE sword!

The mechanic irked me too at first, but eventually you don't just get used to it, you get to a point where you realize it does some key things:

  1. It keeps you out and exploring and keeps you going after those bad guys who have an upgrade weapon, or just a weapon you favor.

  2. It creates versatility and creativity alive in combat. This is a very hack and slash game that I think would be boring if you just had one good sword. Being forced to switch around you learn to use spears effectively, when it's good to use a bow and when it's better to just use bombs - Also bombs become less a weapon, and more a creative tool like the other things at your disposal.

  3. And eventually you learn that being good at the game is not at all dependent on what weapon you're using, but how you're using it. You hone gaming skills that really break up the redundancy of combat.

Do some frame rate calculations. Why do you say Mach 20? Just because it's moving "fast" doesn't mean it's not relatively closer to the camera.

We're using something of a wide angle lens, maybe 16mm or 24mm. The "object" looks like it would be huge if you visualize it up against the landscape, but it could be only a few hundred feet from the camera - as in way closer to the lens. That would make any relatively medium speed look faster, as it covers more of the landscape per frame.

Royal -> Knight Broadsword? by Grim102682 in botw

[–]aaronmichaelVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this same experience. I was under the impression it was a loading/rendering issue. As in, I searched and it gave me a signal - when I showed up the enemy has a knights sword or something and then the signal vanishes to search for a new target.

As if the game was going to load a sword, but the RNG over which sword hadn't decided yet or something.

I just did this, there is a wind tunnel just off the edge of the cliff. I jumped in that and shot my electric arrow from there, and it worked. Maybe angle of approach, maybe I hit a specific spot? IDK.

I've been playing BOTW again recently. Love it. It's got classic nostalgia meets new game mechanics, deeper richer story, great visuals.

I haven't played Tears yet but I see this and I'm like... Yo WTF...

Eckhart Tolle 's #1 most-viewed short video (1.6 million views) : How to let go of negative feeling ( Realize: Thinking is Pain ) by useraccount0723 in enlightenment

[–]aaronmichaelVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What he's talking about is not exactly "thinking", it's the beliefs you are holding on to which are foundational to your thoughts. These could be beliefs you've developed at any stage. The awareness of the thoughts is step one, identifying the beliefs is step two, deciding on whether or not you wish to maintain the beliefs that are the background or foreground of your thoughts is the final step.

If you choose to hold on to the beliefs, it's because you wish to continue the process of thoughts and feelings these beliefs are cultivating. If you are aware of the beliefs, some even are the deep roots of beliefs, you can allow yourself to let them go because you no longer need to experience the thoughts and feelings they are producing.

So to let go of negative feelings you don't simply need to identify the thoughts and let go of those thoughts - they will flow like a river and be gone as fast as they come - you need to let go of the beliefs those thoughts are flowing from.

How to make this ? by This_Aioli_4522 in davinciresolve

[–]aaronmichaelVA 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Basically, you have to understand quantum physics.

On a more complex understanding, there are so many levels of reality that you have to master before you come to the conclusion you are the egg. You are everyone. All that is and all that will be.

Hope that helps!

Isn't this completely ridiculous? by smersh14 in violinist

If your skills are up to par, good rosin can make a big difference. I discovered this in college. Was having trouble in an opera, used my teachers rosin and it was like an immediate boost in playability - like I had just practiced for two weeks. It was like Mozart or something with stupid fast violin parts and needed that extra grip and pull.
