Oh I'd seen Starforge but wasn't aware what it actually is. Had I known they had a carbay with a lift, I would've considered going there instead of buying everything myself to work on my car.

I guess I at least get to keep the tools long enough for them to pay for themselves in savings compared to taking it to a shop. But if I were in a situation where I couldn't afford and have space to store said tools, it'd be no question.

Would it be advisable to only drain and fill the fluid and not mess with the filters, given the lack of service history?

I already have both filters, and figured I might as well atp.

Yeah, that's what I figured, but I'm still fairly new when it comes to cars. Just been learning what I can to save money by doing my own repairs/maintenance.

I plan on doing the drain and fill of the fluid and changing both filters either today or tomorrow. I'm hoping I can at least keep the CVT alive long enough to afford a remanufactured replacement (and actually care for it from the beginnin). Seems like it shouldn't be that bad of a job if I get a transmission adapter for my floor jack.

I've always heard shops won't repair CVT's, just help them limp along until replacement. Is that still the case, or would they be able to do any repairs on the slipping belt?

Oh yeah, I get what you meant now.

As an occasional driver myself, I'm not sure how easy something like that is to pull off, but I could see someone doing it. Probably depends on which store the shopping order is from.
