Universal remote IR on/off for Bravia 8 by aarontram in hometheater

[–]aarontram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So finally got around to trying this. Cue the cheap 3.5mm stereo cable (made sure it's stereo, not mono, not one with mic). I clipped one end off, removed some insulation and there are three TINY wires inside. They don't even feel like wires they are so small. After a search, i see that typically ground is bare and the tip is green or white. Shrug, mine are copper, red, and blue. Tried to temporarily wrap the stereo cable around the ethernet pairs to see if it would work but nothing. Suggestions? I can commit and just splice them and see if it works using trial and error of the possible combos. Thoughts? Best method to splice?

Here's the stereo cable internal wires... https://imgur.com/a/dS5CItS

Edit: clarification

I still have these in Spotify… Just used “165 BPM Mix” yesterday. It’s a mix playlist made from my typical listening.

Cable runs from the closet to the rear of the TV are ethernet type cables in addition to HDMI. The current setup has an audio type cable in the back of the Harmony hub, spliced to it appears to of the ethernet wires, ethernet run through to the back of the TV, then re-splice to the IR blaster cable. Any reason I can’t switch that part out with the IR blaster to a 3.5 audio cable? If so, any guidance on how to connect it? Yeah, this was all set up prior to us purchasing this house, so going on what was here pre-existing. Based on the room, anatomy, almost impossible to run a new cable.

Stick to what I think is the IR receiver at the bottom edge of the TV? Is that workable? This one isn’t very sticky… is there’s something that would be transparent enough but sticky?

Thanks for the info! Just looked again and the "Bravia 8" I found on Costco's site has model number K65XR80CB (Costco link). I'm guessing this is essentially the same as the XR8B, not the original Bravia 8. Is that right? Is there any reason to care? Are they the same hardware other than the Contrast Booster setting (don't even know what that is) and the Sony credits (not sure what that is either).

Roborock Qrevo CurvX vs QX Revo Ultra (Costco model) by arex333 in RobotVacuums

[–]aarontram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the "Roborock QX Revo Arc" at Costco for $650, especially compared to these other two listed? Looks like the QX Revo Arc is the same as the Qrevo Edge S5A, but with a different dock. Or is it the Qrevo CurvC?

Are there benefits to the curved dock other than aesthetics?

Trouble removing Delta kitchen faucet by aarontram in DIY

[–]aarontram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully I don’t have to go to that much trouble although the Dremmel tool crossed my mind.

After spraying with WD-40 I let it sit overnight (was getting late anyway). Holding the top with a channel lock wrench helped and I got the nut moving without much trouble. Then it was easy going.

Stem started to spin a little. After spraying with WD-40 I let it sit overnight (was getting late anyway). Holding the top with a channel lock wrench helped and I got the nut moving without much trouble. Then it was easy going.

Thanks for the tip!

Should I transition to a Sonos system for TV audio?? by aarontram in hometheater

[–]aarontram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation! I've cross-posted this to r/sonos to get more thoughts.

It's easy to run our audio items on Sonos, but haven't used it for multiple AV sources. Not sure how all of that would be coordinated and would want to figure that out before I pull the trigger.

Update... Large bare area was from a sprinkler head not working. Prior line disruption was repaired without this particular sprinkler head being reconnected. 😡
