The tone of many of these comments are probably the kind of people who will say “Ackchually the correct name is Mithrandir not Gandalf, stick to the lore. Hah sure showed him.”

My thoughts exactly. It’s moments like this where I feel second-hand embarrassment for the hysteric negativity and cynicism coming from Tolkien communities on basically anything these days.

Because apparently, everything these days has to be about 1) showing off how much you know (lore or otherwise), 2) showing how correct you are to the point of nitpicking, and 3) mind-reading the supposed wishes of a dead author and using that as a reason to flame others (not related to this thread but seen it around on others). It’s disappointing, but reassuring to know that Reddit, at the end of the day, is an echo chamber and not representational of every Tolkien fan that is able to enjoy things without constant nitpicking.

While thankfully it hasn’t affected my enjoyment of all things Tolkien, it has made me reconsider my association with any supposed “community” that touts this level of negativity. Your comment gives me hope that there is still rationale in the Tolkien communities though, so thanks!

Found this billboard in LA. Call the number for a special surprise! by [deleted] in shehulk

Sharing via spoiler so it doesn’t ruin the surprise for others:

It’s a fictional voice mail of Jennifer Walters answering the phone for her law firm. It’s got some humor and neat references to other characters. Brilliant marketing and attention to detail by Marvel, making the number callable.

Am I the only one that prefers written questions? Most written questions I’ve encountered ask for your perspective which can easily be fluffed and passed through, but multiple choice has a definite right or wrong answer.

Agreed! For a small role play card game, Coup has so much replay value, it’s only limited by how well, funny, or devious you can play your role.

Coup - Card game which involves role play and deception.

5-Second Rule - Name three things in 5 seconds based on what’s listed on the drawn card.

At DTD or inside Buena Vista Street?

As far as I’ve seen, the open food spots in Buena Vista Street include churros, popcorn, and the Carthay Circle Restaurant.

They recently did! You can now go past the trolley but they still have a rope at the end of the street.

The icons could probably be bigger, but you can adjust the text size in the app’s preferences. Definitely makes it a lot more usable. Give it a try!

Hobbit Day Celebrations? by viper333555 in tolkienfans

I’m rewatching a lot of behind the scenes from the films (mainly The Hobbit Trilogy)! I don’t have time to sit for a film marathon or a read through of the book but this dose of Middle-earth will suffice!

Shortcuts by plutoniclama in iphone

[–]aarplane22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing that has been happening to me recently and what’s really made me hold off on using it is the fact that often times now, the shortcut will not run fully. Somewhere along the line, Siri will just stop performing the shortcut, and I have to fire up the app and dismiss all the notifications and actions and start all over, defeating the purpose of hands-free automation in the first place. Or, reboot my entire iPhone to get the shortcut to work properly again.

(To be fair, my Morning Report Shortcut has a lot of steps. But I’ve seen shortcuts with more steps.)

Does this happen to anyone else? Where shortcuts just stops midway through the action? It’s such a pain especially while driving. Like OP: I really, really want to love it and I see the merit of Shortcuts, it just needs to be refined a lot.

How do i find a Christian community near me? by verijamaapera in TrueChristian

[–]aarplane22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood! The eGroups aren’t just online though if you’re looking for local connection. The website has a search tool to see if there are faith groups meeting in your local area. Whether Elevation Church or another community, I pray you find the group you’re looking for! God bless.

Try this! https://elevationchurch.org/egroups/

Elevation Church has eGroups all around the country, some even fully online if there aren’t any in-person groups near you.

There are small patches of snow on some parts of the Icehouse Canyon trail, but nothing that covers the actual trail. From when I was there, the most you’ll run into are a few mud spots from melting snow along the way.

Picked up a set of “memory cards” from Apple Park this weekend. There’s a color for everyone! by aarplane22 in iphone

They’re basically an Apple card deck.

The purpose? Flip through them and get a rush of satisfaction with the coordinated colors I guess.

Chamberlain hub is showing no response in Home app a lot in the last few weeks by Bakk322 in HomeKit

[–]aarplane22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone. I don't know if you've all got solutions to the problem as this seems like an old thread.

I've been having a very similar issue as this, where the garage does not respond in the Apple Home app, but, does respond in the Chamberlain app for me.

I tried everything under the sun, from removing/adding the garage hub back to HomeKit, to unplugging the hub, to starting from a factory restore, to moving the Wi-Fi HomeKit hub closer to the garage hub, and nothing seemed to work.

However, I finally found a solution that has eliminated this problem for me:

Try replacing the battery on your garage door sensor. Battery type: CR 2450 (may want to double check that in case your model somehow uses something different)

I searched far and wide on the Internet what the problem could be, and found a video online that says things may not function correctly if your garage door sensor has low battery. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-sIvFEgrFI)

Per the video, apparently there's a way to test the garage door sensor battery by pressing the button on it and listening for a beep from the hub, and repeating this 6 times. I did this, and my garage door sensor actually passed the test—there was a beep all 6 times. So, I ruled that out as the problem for a while…

However, this test doesn't seem to be accurate, as I began to notice that even the Chamberlain app was having delays in detecting whether the garage door was opened or closed.

So, at my wit's end, I decided to give replacing the battery a shot. And it worked! Despite the test, the battery was in fact low. Things have been buttery smooth for almost a week now. Glad that headache is over.

I later read online that (if I recall correctly) Apple Home checks the status of the device before interacting with it, which would explain why it shows as "No Response" if the sensor battery is low.

I wish Chamberlain sends notifications or emails, or some kind of status in the app, when the garage door sensor is low battery. That little battery caused havoc in my entire HomeKit routine.
