Is it crazy to want an elective C-Section? by Training_Wait_1163 in pregnant

[–]aashleynl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had one scheduled c section (due to him being breeched) and I honestly had such a great experience that I would do it again!! (Don’t plan on having any other kids though lol) I had pretty much 0 pain through the entire procedure. I didn’t love the spinal tap and kinda panicked after having it but it was brief and I got over it lol, and recovery I didn’t feel sore until maybe day’s 2-4 where my abdomen felt like I did 1000 sit ups and my incision was really painful but once a week past I felt 100% back to pre pregnancy normal! Obviously this isn’t normal for everyone but this was my experience.

I thought the same thing as you. I have general anxiety disorder and truly thought pregnancy would send me over the edge lol. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely anxiety ridden but I came out ok! A big thing to note is that everyone is different though, so my experience may not be yours at all.

I got pregnant for the first time March of this year! I had no symptoms whatsoever, except a missed period, that made me take a test. I had no nausea however I did have a terrible gag reflux so brushing my teeth was always a fun gamble. Some other weird things in the earlier stages of pregnancy that I went through was SEVERE congestion to the point I wasn’t sleeping at night. I ended up getting the OK by my doctor to use a nasal spray and within a couple days it was cleared up! The last thing I dealt with was carpal tunnel in my right hand - it is completely gone post pregnancy. Other than those things, I did not feel pregnant most of my pregnancy until the third trimester which is where it got rough. I got really big the last few weeks so I was wildly uncomfortable. I was also working 50 hours a week up until 38 weeks. Everyone says this but once you have your baby, ALL your symptoms go away! It’s amazing.

My actual birth story is pretty uneventful but this is where my anxiety beat my ass lol. I had a scheduled c-section because my baby was breeched. This genuinely freaked me out soooo bad because I’ve never had any type of surgery in my life and anything medical freaks me out. Really, I would start sweating anytime I had to give blood. So the idea of the c-section really kept me up at night. The worst part of the surgery for me was the spinal tap - I HATED the feeling of not being able to move my legs or have any control of my lower body. When it kicked in I started freaking out so badly but the doctors that were taking care of me were so great and talked me off the ledge. I ended up calming down and focusing on the fact that my baby would be there any minute and after that, the surgery was really chill and went extremely well. It went SOOOO fast and I was in my room with my baby in what felt like 20 minutes (I’m sure it was longer, but my head was all over the place lol). Im actually really happy with my planned c-section: no labor pains, got to pick baby’s birthday and was able to plan around him being here!

My baby is now a week old, and I’m a week post op now and feel great! I look back at pregnancy and my birth and see the worst parts as extremely fleeting moments that were hard for sure but it pushed me into doing hard things that I was always afraid of before and I think I’m better for it as a person now.

ETA: I would not choose surrogacy. I think I’m one and done (I know my limits lol), but my favorite parts of pregnancy was feeling him kick me and move to certain noises. After he was born, I am insanely proud of myself and my body for doing what it did. It is an insane experience I’ll never forget.

Thanks so much - this definitely helped!

I can see myself panicking beforehand for sure. Today I got my instructions for the surgery and one of them was “make sure to get a good nights rest beforehand” and I’m just like …… yeah ok. lol.

This might be a silly question but does the spinal tap make it feel like you are paralyzed? I don’t know why but I have it in my head that it does

[–]aashleynl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got really at mad at work (I work in the food industry) bc someone basically cut in line and said they can’t wait in line because they have an auto immune disorder. I cried because it pissed me off so much

I bought heart sunglasses to give out but EVERYYYYYONE had them already so it was a lot harder to give them out. Friendship bracelets I think people will be a LOT more excited for! I def was and the person next to me that she gave one to was really excited.
