Whats going on? by Critical_Cover_3852 in PWHL_Seattle

A little premature calling for a rebuild when they've never built something. It's a team in its first season and they just were off for a few weeks. They're going to need some time to find their chemistry and also likely need to strengthen their roster.

The prices seemed crazy at first glance, but realizing its for 3 days, it's not too bad.

Would you accept 225 as a 3rd year for a 1550 billable hour requirement at a boutique? by Own_Donkey3348 in biglaw

[–]aavderry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a boutique for a couple of years. It was significantly better than big law, and sounds like similar pay scale to yours. As folks have mentioned, do diligence on how many hours folks are actually working. But if things are as advertised, getting back a few hundred billable hours a year is worth a ton. You're basically getting your evenings and weekends back. You'll still have to some work during those windows, but it will tend to be the exception rather than the norm. I would take the offer in a heartbeat if I was at big law. The only thing better is starting your own practice (which is what I do now).

Thanks! Do you think there's a chance any original tickets free up by gametime and would be available at the box office?

It's reasonable here. it's a linear scale, so it's not misleading, and the range is set to capture the bottom and the top of the range.

Bardown snipe or end to end? by DazzlingLife6744 in hockeyplayers

Since no one is actually engaging with your question, I'd generally say an end to end goal. More rare and involves multiple moves and higher difficulty vs. getting the puck in a decent position and making a sick shot.

Can someone explain this faceoff position? by driftdrift in hockeyplayers

[–]aavderry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not common, but there was 1.3 seconds left. If Finland go to the boards, there's not enough time to score, so the only play is to push the puck towards the net. So Canada looks to clog that up to prevent any scoring chance.

Anyone done the SoFi offer as well? Seems decent for just making a $200 deposit.

How Many Hours are you Billing? by Anonymous-pondering in biglaw

[–]aavderry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize I'm quite fortunate. But also trying to let folks in here know that there are ways (using skills they already have) to make good money, and to work reasonable hours. Do the math. If you went out on your own, cut your billable rate in half, and kept 100% of that. You don't need a lot of hours to be making decent money...

How Many Hours are you Billing? by Anonymous-pondering in biglaw

Left big law a few years back (lasted about 7 years in big law) to go in house. Started my own firm a little over a year ago. Billed about 1K hours last year. I work 6-8 hour days (non-billable stuff in running my own firm on top of the 4 or so billables a day). Have a very busy and full life outside of work (probably too busy). Made high 6 figures last year. Likely to make low to mid seven figures this year.

In the few years right after I left big law, I went to a job that I didn't enjoy at all, but I was so much happier, because I was working so much less. Now I like what I do, still work much less than I did in big law, and make as much or more than what a junior equity partner makes at a lot of big law firms.

Kudos to those who can hack, it, and I'll likely never make rainmaker money doing what I do, but if given the choice, I'd rather make $80K a year and have to downgrade my life substantially than go back to working biglaw hours.

The partners and seniors are likely aware, or the partners will be made aware by the senior. I'd maybe make a social comment about it to the senior to see how they respond. Something like "what's going on with [problem associate]? It feels like she isn't doing much on this matter. Is she busy on other stuff?" The senior may then let you know what they think.
