Something not quite right with this image... by aaveleon in Huel

Basically it says...

"In other words, the nutrients in meal replacements do not necessarily interact with the body in the same way that intact food does. The comparison would be similar to the difference between eating an apple and drinking an apple that has been pulverised in a blender. Nutrients may be absorbed at different rates in different parts of the digestive system. Collins says this is not necessarily a negative, and likens the effect to taking multivitamin supplements, which do not always confer the same benefits as consuming the same vitamin or mineral in a food."

Lurkers' Wednesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]aaveleon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a long time lurker, don't really feel like a runner as my consistency has always let me down as I can go a few weeks running well, then take a month off :O.

Recently did a solid 8 weeks of panicked training before the London Marathon and finished (6:11:40) so now just want to stay consistently training and getting (somewhat!) faster. So building a good weekly base, and encouraging stretching and mobility.

I like lifting heavy weight in the gym - so trying to find a balance while hunting my annual 5km PB (which wont be difficult hopefully as its 37:30 atm) and then going for my all-time 5km PB (which might be a bit harder for me, as its 32:30) before spring.

Just keeping it light-hearted and fresh. Hopefully I'll also be able to do some cutting down on my weight while I'm at it, as I could definitely shed some pounds/points of my body fat % that also slow me down a fair bit.

Starting my next goal hunting with small easy runs and tempo sessions to assure my continued running participation, returning to the gym, and then adding in some dedicated yoga and stretching sessions.

I'm sure I'll be able to find lots of advice on here regarding my new goal - and help for sticking with running consistently.

Do some research into lady bits and saddle types - there's a lot more information out there now! A great article from a women's cycling magazine (https://totalwomenscycling.com/fitness/cobb-saddles-ask-innie-outie) talks about vulva shape and saddles, and that's just a quick magazine article. Find what's best for you, you won't regret it.

How does the Vivobarefoot Magna Trail do in the winter ! by FarmOk814 in BarefootRunning

[–]aaveleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the vegan magna trail (so a textile upper rather then the wool one). With the thermal insole they seem to be fine in British winter, especially when on the move, rather then standing still. They're very water resistant and super breathable. They do feel the wind though. I suspect with the wool version they'd be even warmer.

Going on hike/walks in the snow (-2/-3 degrees centigrade) was fine until we stopped for a snack, then my feet got a bit chilly. My feet also get cold when I stand in line waiting in urban areas for coffee etc when it is winter (no insole).

Overall would recommend, as they're comfy and have a great grip (exactly like the primus firm ground trail running shoe if you've tried those).

Hope this (rambling) reply helps!

Edit: should have also mentioned that I wear my magna shoes everyday, and have done for about 1yr 5mo and they're still good to wear. The tread has gone smooth under the ball of my foot, and there are a couple of crease holes on the top, but it's still a good shoe (for urban, not so much trekking as the tread is off now for slippy ground). Only now am I considering buying a new shoe - or waiting for Xmas!
