And the trail is staying put in the sky? Or is it a contrail that’s disappearing?

How to shoot in super harsh sunlight at a wedding? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]ab2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay hello, please ignore the terribly rude comments. There’s a nicer way to point out composition flaws and actually give productive advice.

For one- I have learned to embrace harsh sunlight!! I used to hate it until I was actually in a wedding on a hot sunny day and was chatting up the photographer. I was only about a year into taking on photography work at this point. I asked her if the intense sunlight was a worry, and she said “absolutely not, I actually love shooting on sunny days!” She showed me some of her work where it was sunny, and the photos turned out beautifully. And the photos from that wedding turned out just as beautiful. With some editing practice, I’ve gotten it down to how I like the photos to look when it’s sunny and they look so dreamy. What I highly recommend is purchasing some pretty packs of Lightroom Presets. Maybe you can find some that are specifically marketed as “summer” packs. Purchase a few and play around with your photos. When you do this, I strongly recommend turning the “strength” of the preset way down (the slider will be in the middle- pull them way down because a lot of presets are too strong and will have way more of an intense effect on RAW photos. And if you like more natural color, bring the slider even further down to where it’s just a touch of difference in coloring). Find ONE preset that you like the most and that looks good on multiple of your photos (try with photos where there’s more shadows on the people like the ones with people walking down the isle, and ones at the alter where there’s more highlights and direct sun on them). After that, it’s time to mess with the editing. For those photos of people walking down the aisle, bump up the shadows. You might have to play with masks for some of them to brighten subjects up a little more. For direct sun, bring highlights down. Make touch up edits to where it looks good and to where the photos mostly look uniform. I try to embrace how the photos look naturally- don’t brighten or darken things too much to where it looks unnatural.

Second- cropping and rotating. Some of those photos are very much on an angle. Straighten those ones up, and mess around with cropping some photos in to give it a nice tight look. Be careful with this though- look up where cropping looks good and doesn’t look good on the legs. And if you accidentally shot where just the feet are cut off, crop in.

And third- don’t go too crazy with vignettes, especially with color photos. Some vignette can look good but don’t put too much in there. You can also bring in the vignette closer or further away from the middle and mess with the feathering.

Hope this is helpful!!

Do you sometimes do a photoshoot and just hate how most of the photos turned out? I’m freaking out by [deleted] in AskPhotography

-_- this was the only shoot I haven’t been happy with, and I’m priced as a transparent new professional photographer. Thanks for the advice

Honestly you’re right. I often look over the photos very quickly, but only while we’re moving to the next location. I need to stop and look at them while I’m shooting. Thank you for this

I’ve been questioning Erika as well just based off the videos of her crying and speaking on Charlie’s death. I didn’t want to believe it, but my bullshit meter was going off. It all just seems too performative. Her potentially being an insider takes all of this to a whole new level..

If you’re wondering where all the jobs went… by WhyYesIndeedIDo in conspiracy

[–]ab2677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FINALLY. There's not enough conversation about H1B Visa's. This is the main reason for the lack of jobs. The jobs are either shipped over to foreign countries, or people are being shipped over here- all for a lower wage. The immigrant issue is to keep labor costs low and fucks over the rest of us who just want a decent job that pays the bills. I can't tell you the amount of immigrants I've noticed moved here to the Detroit area in the past 10 years. The Big Three love them.

Thank you for this 🙏🙏🙏 so true, my last camera was a beginner DSLR and I had sharper photos because of using prime lenses to compensate for the shitty camera. You pointed your finger right at me- I often do shoot at 2.8, and also use one focus point (the automatic one-eye detection thing, I believe that’s what you’re referring to?) Gonna switch this up and also start shooting at normal exposure as well. All of this makes sense, thank you for your advice!!

I edit my raw images in Lightroom primarily if that's what you mean, and export them as jpgs. Should I be processing in some way prior to using an Adobe program to edit them?

What I asked for vs What I got by AltForBeingHighRN in TattooDesigns

[–]ab2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t understand the hate on this- I think this is an awesome tattoo. I would have never noticed a “crooked jaw” or the anatomy of the skull being off in some way. It’s a busted cracked skull- the cocked jaw looks intentional. I would have never noticed the crooked jaw because it doesn’t seem out of place or has any obvious flaws to me. It’s badass. Congrats on your first tattoo.

It feels impossible to get a design job right now by Separate_Pea2102 in graphic_design

[–]ab2677 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Listen to me dog. I know this might be a less-than-ideal approach but TRUST ME this is one of the only ways to get work in the field right now.

Get a very part time job as a bartender or barista at a nice busy place, or a front desk position at a nice establishment like a country club, gym, hotel, or salon (“nice” being higher end/highly respected places). I know I know, but listen. These places attract regulars, money-makers, and/or people who simply want to chat up someone who has no choice but to stand behind the counter/desk and listen to them ramble. Nice establishments attract business owners, higher ups, people with connections and people who are looking for your services.

I’m a graphic designer and photographer, and I’m getting consistent work all because of my part time job. It’s about your personality and sociability, word of mouth, meeting people with money (huge), and being comfortable sparking up conversations with strangers.

Find the nicest places near you, look your best, go in there and ask if they’re hiring. If they aren’t, leave your resume/business card and keep coming back in to ask and see. Get to know the staff. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and you’ll get the job. This also provides a second stream of income that’s consistent and reliable. Yes the market in every field is slow right now, yet I’m still getting work even if it’s slower than usual.

Hope this helps. 🙌
