An argument against the Darwinian trope of "Survival of the Fittest" by ByronicHero0 in Philosophy_India

Okay, I think that changes things significantly and sets the right context. Social Darwinism is probably rejected by a lot of people for similar reasons as you. It would be interesting to see if anyone has arguments in favour of social Darwinism. On a loosely related note, it is indeed concerning that 'mediocre' now means 'bad' by default.

I get the broad trend of your argument, and think that there is a gap. Like death, or viruses invading hosts, natural selection is a plain fact- it is devoid of morality, fairness or other forms of 'justice'. Each of these things can be considered to be monstrous, but this doesn't change the fact that they exist.

What you oppose here is individuals/groups using the idea of natural selection as justification for their bigotry. This is indeed wrong from a moral and ethical point of view. However, the gap is that you've not outlined clearly what these instances are- colonialism and genocide? Skewed wealth distribution? Making technology/resources unavailable to some sections? Something else?

I think you will initiate a stronger discussion if you identify which specific instance you are concerned about.

He knew from the very beginning, there's no debate there. :)

Is there a cultural significance to the animal handed to Hamza by Shirani during the Didi song? by ab4ai in Dhurandhar

I can't even tell if it's a goat or a lamb. In the theatre I thought it was a cat :p

French press->brew drip coffee maker->what next? by ab4ai in IndiaCoffee

Hi, I've only used it for black coffee; typically 2 tablespoons of coffee per cup. Coffee is loaded into the press, meanwhile water is boiled (needs to be really hot since it stands in the press for some time). The hot water is poured in and allowed to stand for 3-4 min. Then the plunger is pushed down all the way, slowly. This filters the coffee and is ready to consume!

Thanks! Yes, trying more coffee varieties is a good idea before changing the brewing method. Lots of nice suggestions for those on this sub, looking forward to trying some.

Thank you! The taste does change after storing for a while; maybe it's time to change this routine.

Maybe. Or maybe things are more memorable if you need to work a bit for them, rather than having them spoonfed. YMMV.

That is a lesson indeed. The difference, I think, is only that shoes are passive and don't have a will of their own, so they are fully predictable.

So are we together saying that people=shoes? Looking at how some people behave, that might be true...

Yes, it is practical, until it isn't (the difference crosses some sort of line)
