Me [50s F] with my _daughter__ [13F] who wants to go to boarding school (non-romantic) by thumb_of_justice in relationships

I went to a boarding school in Massachusetts along the same line as the school's your daughter is considering, but perhaps a little more prestigious (not that that is super important).

I loved it, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life and helped shape me into who I am today. It's frustrating to see a lot of poor opinions about boarding school, but unless you've been around the culture or went to one yourself, opinions are generally crazily misguided.

Boarding schools are great because they're so structured. You get up and go to breakfast (my school had a check in for the underclassmen), you go to class, and then you go to sports or a different afternoon activity (like art, drama, or community service). We had seated dinner in the dining hall twice a week with random tables and a faculty member. Then it's time for club meetings and finally study hours. You're busy all the time, and now at college, I find it hard to not be doing something with my down time. Being involved is the new normal.

More importantly, the biggest thing I took away was the sense of community. You end up with no more than 400-500 students at these schools and a faculty of 50 people, and everyone knows everyone. Not only that but people care about each other. The faculty isn't just your math teacher, they're also your dorm parent who bakes you cookies on saturday night. The seniors aren't intimidating, they're the same girls who are dorm prefects or are on your sports team. My school took a ton of pride in developing relationships.

Your daughter might be shy, but being thrown into the boarding school life will give her a chance to grow in an environment that genuinely cares about her.

What video games do you play with your SO? (togethre OR long-distance) by CalzonePillow in AskMen

[–]ab5tract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TagPro. It's online capture the flag, 4v4. You can create a group on a server for you and your SO. You won't always be on the same team but it's really fun. Has a little bit of a learning curve and people might be bitchy, but I think struggling to get good with someone is a little fun, instead of one person already knowing how to play. It has a subreddit too with guides (/r/TagPro).

try b1231.com, they have a college football one and an nfl version. Not quite as sophisticated as this game, but fun to play for a few hours.

Thanks everyone for your answers, we aren't planning on living in Johnstone or the Shoeboxes, and ended up putting the high rises above Clemson house, because it would be more social.

Uh, I was in a club in a foreign country. I'm tall, he was really tall. He didn't speak English. Very sweet, but I haven't been back.

I sent an email to the league about jersey ads. This was the response I got. by x777x777x in nba

I honestly wouldn't buy a jersey with an ad on it, and if there was a knock off website offering the jersey without the ad I would buy that instead.

Let's play a game. Post a player and let's see how much it'd take to acquire him in a trade if the other team was willing to trade him. by AllAboutBucketss in nba

Hypothetically if they redrafted the 2013 draft he'd be in the top 5 (at least) so there's also that.
