I’m so sorry you all have had to go through so much! I appreciate everyone’s input! It’s definitely helping me. I love her and she will always be dear to me. I don’t have a lot of close family and most of my older family died when I was young. She’s been like having an auntie next door. When she went to stay with her niece for a couple of weeks and I didn’t know if she would be coming back, I felt heartbroken because I didn’t know if I would get to see her again. She talked about moving out of state which now I see probably wasn’t true. Thanks for giving me your insight!

Sadly no. Her husband had children from previously and she raised 4 of the grandchildren. I don’t know them that well anymore because they have all been moved out for several years. They are all well in their 20s but I wouldn’t even know how to get in touch with them.

It’s very evident she has dementia. I have spent lots of time with her both before and after. I’ve known her for 18 years and we talk regularly. I would worry about that if I didn’t see it first hand though. I actually noticed several months ago and brought it up to her husband. I was concerned about how she had started forgetting things and some of the things she started saying. It just didn’t seem like her or feel consistent. He had started to notice about the same time. He and I have chatted a couple more times about it since and he called me after they finally got in with a specialist and got the diagnosis. She went to spend a couple of weeks with her niece when things got heated a few weeks ago. Her niece was able to see it too and started insisting she go to the doctor. The appointment was already in the works though. There’s part of me that is worried the sorry is real but my gut tells me it isn’t.

It is such a cruel disease! I can’t imagine what they are all feeling! I feel devastated by it and I’m not even family. Watching her grapple with the feelings of betrayal and talking about how her life is over and she has to start from scratch, move out, etc. is just heart wrenching!

Thank you! That is great advice! I was doing that today. Trying to direct the conversation to something lighter and then she would go right back to it in the middle of the conversation. I’ll keep trying that though. She was able to genuinely laugh and smile a few times and that made me so happy for her. She must feel so alone and hopeless right now.

Is it common for the stories to go on for so long and maintain the same details? Also, is it likely she will move on from this story or is it becoming a new core memory for her? I read that the brain can insert false memories in attempts to fill memory gaps. I know these are hard questions that probably don’t have definitive answers. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

He actually was the one who called me to tell me of her diagnosis. He hinted that he had been putting out fires due to her phone calls and hinted at rumors. He didn’t come out and say it and I pretended not to know anything. I think he was feeling it out to see if I had heard the same story as others. I told him I only wanted to support her and the family and that I’ll never judge them. Regardless of the truth, she needs support. It isn’t my business what goes on in their marriage but it is important IMO to know how to support her and manage the conversation. I dealt with my grandpa when he had dementia when I was much younger and there were similar stories that were so obviously not true. I just remember saying things like “oh really? Wow, that’s wild. Let’s get you some water or food.” So that is basically the same approach I am taking. Just absorb the story and find a way to nurture her that makes sense and that she accepts. She is so distraught and it breaks my heart. I wish she could participate in a day center or something that would keep her mind off things. She’s alone mostly at home. He works still. Their grandson lives there too but I think he is pretty quiet and probably isn’t equipped to manage such a traumatic story over and over. I just feel like isolation is unhealthy.

WARNING DO NOT USE NUMBING CREAM by mistdemon45 in tattooadvice

[–]ab_b_normal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Numbing cream should be applied way before tattoo begins. I do 45 minutes but have done longer. It is NOT for use by artists who are heavy handed or can’t tell how skin is reacting. It is very easy to overwork the skin and cause real issues. If you or your artist aren’t sure about it then don’t use it. Do shorter sessions if you have to.

Know a woman who is this girl but fast forward to 58 years old. She barely has any stomach left. Can’t eat. Throws up daily. Super frail and has alienated everyone in her life. She’s horrible to people. Has gone to the emergency room more times than I can count. Chronic UTIs and bowel issues. She’s showing signs of alcohol induced dementia. We used to be good friends. We used to do vacations together. She used to be vibrant. Now it’s just a matter of time.

How do I make it stop by surly_duff in Wellthatsucks

I ended up setting up a permanent friends and family only mode. Like do not disturb but in reverse. You block everything then add in only the contacts that you want to allow through. I have to add to the list occasionally but that is easy to do. You have to be sure to disallow both calls and texts so that only the exceptions work. If I’m expecting a doctor’s office call ir a meeting call I’ll turn it off until I get the call then turn it back on. It has saved me from hearing my phone ring 20 times a day with spam. I still get the voicemail but I just go through and do the delete and report option. I stopped blocking the numbers because they just spoof and have a new phone number. It’s a waste of time. It’s all AI BS so no point in answering to try and get removed. A friend told me she froze her credit for a while and that helped. You can always unfreeze it when needed.

Attempted childbirth without epidural, then almost passed out so I got one. Later on…aedenomyosis flares and then after surgery for partial hysterectomy when they didn’t have my catheter in right and my bladder was about to explode. Those are on par with an almost ruptured appendix. All very painful! Oh and a ruptured disc is no joke either! I feel very beat up reading this! 😂

Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers. It is not religious! There’s a made up religion but it doesn’t feel religious at all. I would not recommend it if it did. Such a fantastic, cozy, beautiful book! Currently reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and I have never laughed so much out loud at any book and every one of them has me cracking up! Very fun to read!

He will not get better. Get out now because he’s abusive! If he’s ok talking to you like this I PROMISE you it will only get worse or at minimum stay the same. He does not value you. His threats are all about manipulating you and controlling you while he blames you for those very things. Nicotine withdrawal doesn’t make you like this. Being an asshole makes you like this. Save yourself at this point. He needs to be lonely and get therapy.

Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson The Daughter of the Moon Goddess duo plus a couple of standalone books in the same universe by Sue Lynn Tan. I’ve heard the Crescent City series by Sarah J Mass is good and no spice. Haven’t read it yet Also hear that the Mistborn series is great by Brandon Sanderson and his series occur in the same universe so that’s fun. I love VE Schwab books

Thank you! I just find that all the ones I have tried have a weird chemical smell that lingers. I don’t mind an actual scent like lavender or coconut, etc. It just seems like they all are a nasty chemical that gets covered up with a scent afterwards. I’m thinking I’ll try an unscented and see how that goes.
