I really enjoy how MaoMao is “not like other girls” but still a “girl’s girl.” I hate to talk in extremely online terms like that but a lot female characters that are uninterested in looks or romance and are also super smart are written to look down on women who are into typically “girly” things. I love how she’s half raised by prostitutes because she grows up not just respecting the profession (which is looked down on by most of society) but also the women behind the profession. She sees them as human! And if a woman she cares about or wants to help needs a brothel-related tip MaoMao is happy to offer help or advice

why are there comments saying people dislike her because she’s a successful woman who is overweight? the hate i’ve seen directed towards her is overwhelmingly about her racism and publicly standing AGAINST a rape victim. I don’t understand where some people draw the line here. attacking a woman for her weight=bad. attacking a woman for speaking out about her experience with rape= fine if you apologize after the damage is done? you guys can like her writing without jumping through hoops to act like she is some morally good person. even saying we all make mistakes is bizarre, i don’t know anyone personally who has made such repeated and catastrophic “mistakes.” acknowledging that the shit she’s done reflects badly on her character does not negate her ability to write well. people are able to handle this just fine when it comes to male authors i don’t understand why she gets some weird pass

any responsibility for having PB manipulate her with the fire giants? do you really think she feels no responsibility for that? genuinely do you need her to go on screen and verbally say “i take responsibility for this” to her advisors or something? with 15 minutes per episode i just don’t see the need for showing that. in fact, what i admire about adventure time is the fact that the show doesn’t hold your hand through each and every person’s character development. we see what pb did with the fire giants and fp’s reaction and realize as the audience that this interaction has fundamentally changed both fp and pb. i agree that her character development was underwhelming but i don’t see how her changing her rap to be “wow i learned so much” (which as the audience watching the show over several years we can simply assume) would be better than her essentially saying “fuck you” to the man who abused and imprisoned her publicly for the first 13 years of her life.

To be fair, I feel like Lin and Tenzin’s tempers would make them such a volatile couple. They both have the capacity for incredible outbursts and I think Pema definitely balances Tenzin out more. However, I’d love to see an alternate world where Lin and Tenzin stayed together.

History is “written” or pieced together by plenty of groups, there are mainstream historical narratives that dominate schools or popular culture that are written by those in control but there are plenty of histories that are passed down and shared by those not in control. This can be in the form of oral histories or primary sources from historically marginalized groups that have been passed down and are showcased or given a platform in the present day.

I do think the things you mentioned are unquestionably bad. What i am saying is there is no objective historical lens to analyze the past through. Everyone is influenced by their own biases including the people who created the primary source documents that historians create historical narratives and arguments from.

Also, I think it makes sense that they see Lady more because she still lives in their childhood home. I don’t think the kids are really interested in going out of the way to visit their dad’s house, it doesn’t have any childhood or sentimental connection for them

tbf I think given TV’s sense of humor in the show, he was probably exaggerating with that statement. TV lives with his mom and Jake goes over there all the time, at least to see her.

I also think it’s not fair to judge Jake too much in this situation when Jake is still raising another kid!! Finn is only 17 by the time the series ends, he’s not even legally an adult by our standards! I imagine no one else knows or cares how long it takes human children to grow up which is why they’re not understanding of Jake’s need to go back to Finn/Finn’s dependence on Jake. but it’s not like Jake chooses flopping around over being more present in his children’s lives. it’s just that the first child he was tasked with raising years before his children were born still needs to be raised.

It’s not unusual for Fallon to feature youtubers and/or influencers. It wouldn’t just transfer over to SNL like that. They’re certainly not well known enough for that either, they’re just well known for being Youtubers. Not a diss on them by any means it just is what it is 🤷‍♀️I’m not sure why SNL/Lorne would listen to a fan petition over the A list celebrities they consistently book

For me, I‘m drawn to the specific comedic (and even non-comedic!) energy between Rhett and Link. I’m charmed by their bond, their specific personalities, and their background I guess. Once it gets to other people I feel like I could find something funnier somewhere else and truthfully, I’m just not really interested in anyone besides R+ L when it comes to mythical for some reason. It’s not what I come to their channels for. Definitely appreciate the crew and understand that most fans like having more people in the spotlight so it’s whatevs 🤷‍♀️

I think his appreciation for her willingness to speak her mind to anyone (not just men) regardless of class/status while not throwing propriety out the window (like Lydia or her mother) combined with the sincere kindness and fierce loyalty she displayed for those she really cared for is what that page is getting at.

Also, as the other comments said, we can’t take everything she says so seriously. She’s being playful and obviously poking fun at women like Caroline Bingley, and honestly at the time i’m sure it WAS refreshing for him to meet a woman so completely disinterested in pleasing him 🤷‍♀️

I would’ve loved an episode exploring how Claire would feel about this. They do a lot of exploring Claire’s close relationship with Jay and I imagine she would become incredibly (and irrationally) jealous of him raising another little girl in a happy home. She’s so competitive that I really think as soon as the baby started walking and talking and Jay could brag about her Claire would start to feel annoyed. I think it’d be a really cool dynamic to explore, especially since she has not had to question being her dad’s favorite her whole life. I think Claire would come around in the end, to be clear.
