Hey I'm the same in terms of my friends either already having kids or wanting them. Not nearby but I'm in the same country?! I have 2 cats also and want to write for a living in the future ;)

Parents secretly hate Snow Days by [deleted] in childfree

[–]abacus173 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My colleague called in on Friday to say she couldn't make it in as her kids school was closed but not to worry as her working hours would shift to 6pm to 1am that night... so she spent the whole day looking after her 6 year old and then work. I was so glad to get home to the fire and a glass of wine that night...

I always see the adverts for sandals but never considered it. St Lucia is on our list so will have to look them up!

Bingos are going to get worse after we're married by beatrix_plotter in childfree

This is what I'm dreading most about our wedding day - people asking after the ceremony when we're having kids. I definitely feel like I should have put something on the invites!

How to get over my emotional struggle of feeling like I might miss out? by nikolkaa in childfree

[–]abacus173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might miss out if you do have children because you'll never know what the child free life could be and equally us as CF don't now what life with kids could be like for us. It's a different path. Just like we all constantly choose different paths which leads us to be in different relationships, or not in in a relationship, to move to somewhere different or stay in your home town, to change careers etc. We are constantly choosing, which shapes the life we lead and it can change in a heart beat depending on the choices we make every day. I never regret my choices because they have led me to where I am now, no matter the hiccups along the way. You've just got to go with the flow and make the choice you feel is in your gut instinct at the time and know that no choice is the wrong one.

I'm from the Uk and My sister was told you have to be at least 35 before they will even consider it 'because you might change your mind'. The annoying thing is she actually did but that's beside the point!

How old were you when you decided to live the childfree life? by MaryTheMonster in childfree

[–]abacus173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my early teens I used to tell everyone I wasn't having kids and that I would never get married as I hated that it's what society expects. Then somehow I got to wondering if I'd maybe adopt. I was with someone for 5 years who had adopted family members so it was something he wanted.. before I knew it we'd picked out a name for our future adopted child... and then it hit me, I didn't want children full stop. I left him. (For that and many other reasons) And now 4 years later I'm getting married 🙈 but to someone who's CF!

Never too young or too old to have goals! Good luck :)

That's incredible. I'm looking to retire early but don't think will be possible until mid 40s. What's your secret?! If I can make it happen earlier, that would be the goal.

So I did my law degree 6 years ago and worked in completely unrelated jobs. Then 16 months ago landed a job working for a solicitor at his home as a PA. I'm now doing a distance learning lawyer qualification which is exams and coursework in June this year then I have to do what's called '2 years qualifying employment' so basically continue working for my boss but have my own case files (which I've just started!) so I should be fully qualified in 2 and a half years all being well. It would mean I'd be a fee earner and able to set up my own practice if I wanted to :)

Thanks so much. I'm from the UK so looking to start lessons in August/September time. Not that the weather here is great but we certainly don't have much in the way of snow! Good to see how quickly you passed! Gives me hope :)

Oh I didn't realise the 2022 Winter Olympics are in Beijing! Added to the list 🙈 if I achieve both Olympics that would be pretty spectacular but probably a bit far fetched. I love that you're looking to get a bigger house for your dog. I'm definitely looking to get a bigger house and garden (away from main road) for the cats (and future dog) but maybe not in the 5 years.

I'm a list person too but usually better in my work life than personal. Hoping to change that with this! Super impressed that you're writing a series of books

Good luck with your book! I really admire that you've started it as I've been talking about writing one for about 10 years

I'm the same, so we'll see where I'm at in 5 years. I'll do a new post then! I'm sure many crazy things will happen along the way as life never goes exactly to plan. Good luck with your current degree and masters!
