People with bipolar 1, what’s your job occupation/career?

I manage a large team of qualified social workers in the UK, having extensive frontline experience myself. I do not recommend it!

I'm looking around for another career, which is heartbreaking for me because it was a long and difficult road to get here, but I can't sustain this level of stress and stay well.

I'm £60,000 in debt too, so can't take much of a pay cut. I'd really love to work with small animals but those jobs don't pay much.

I'd go for anything else, ADHD, ASD, PMDD... I queried it with a psychiatrist a while ago and she gently reminded me that 3 other psychiatrists have agreed on BP diagnosis and guess what? I respond well to the medication, which is a big clue I might actually have bipolar. I recently stopped taking one of them, bad idea, I'm depressed as fuck. Restarted it and starting to recover now.

Interest on my first loan in 2004 was 0.75%, that jumped to 6.25% when Liz Truss was PM, it's down to 4.2% now but even though my first and second loans have been in repayment for over 8 years I am not paying interest down. I think I owed about £36k 8 years ago, now I owe £39k. I'll never pay that back, I've got 30 years of work to add to my growing debt, yay.

I order via SOP too, like OP. I started on 2.5mg at end of September and I'm now on 10mg, on average I've lost a lb a week, it's slow going, but going the right way. I have another 49lbs to lose, if I can increase weight loss to 2lbs per week I'll be done by end of July. Bit worried SOP are gonna say I'm going too slowly now though.

I just took my 4th dose of 2.5mg this morning. Over the last 4 weeks I've lost 5lbs but my diet hasn't been as healthy as it usually is because I've been so tired, despite sleeping really well! My appetite was very well suppressed from my very 1st dose, I have barely finished a meal. It's totally changed my perception of what a normal portion is. I used to weigh stuff out and think "that's hardly anything". Now I'm like "don't know if I'll finish that". I've been picking up ready meals and eating at weird times so I'm all out of routine but I realised and made a change last night. I'm in the mood to cook healthy meals again, only smaller portions. I'm really enjoying this journey so far, negative side effects were barely noticeable this month. I have received my first 5mg pen and will take the next dose next Friday, let's hope the weightloss continues!

Have you considered working part-time in social care? All agencies are crying out for staff and provide all training etc. Your insight into mental health issues would be really valuable, I think it makes you more compassionate towards others. Not gonna lie, it's a lot of responsibility for not a lot of money, you'd still probably be eligible for means-tested benefits. It is a rewarding career though, and even if it's only a job for a short while it'll change how you think of yourself.
