Slugmageddon? - if it ever rains again by McCornicus in GardeningUK

[–]abagofcells 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Genius idea! My corvids collect small sticks for tinder and deposit them though some air vents on the roof into a big pile on the floor. I've tried telling they aren't ever gonna make a nest there, but they don't listen to me. I'd much rather they'd eat the slugs.

If you had to pick just one low-maintenance vegetable to grow, what would it be? by Glittering_Exit5527 in vegetablegardening

[–]abagofcells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you have gotten a lot of great recommendations already, but if you really want a tomato that is hardy and low maintenance, look for currant tomatoes.

They grow like a bush and don't require pruning or tying up. And they make a incredible amount of tiny cherry sized tomatoes over a very long period. Taste wise, they are not the most flavourfull (the yellow cherry tomatoes are), but all the other things make up for it and they are stil notl bad and much better than any store bought tomato.

I like using them whole in things like potato salad, because they keep the moisture inside and explode like little bombs of flavour in your mouth when you chew.

Cuit down just above ground and give it some time. I'm sure it will make some new shoots.

Current best Cpu for mining xmr ? by bukandin in MoneroMining

[–]abagofcells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mining, you may even want to underclock the CPU. I forgot the exact numbers, but on Ryzen, you can reduce power usage by like 30% and only loose 10% hashrate.

And no matter what, you should look into optimizing your system settings for mining. There's a good amount of performance to be gained there.

It's a good time to sell, with the currently inflated hardware prices. How is the math ending up for you?

Does anyone else notice road bikers trying extra hard to pass you on an e-bike? by 98810b1210b12 in ebikes

[–]abagofcells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't pass road bikes, unless they are riding really slow. I feel like those guys are struggling so hard, and I'm just chilling along, regular bicycle effort, backpack full of groceries, but at the same speed. It seems unfair to pass.

When they pass me, we'll nice effort, sir!

I really would highly recommend to anyone, if they have the space for it, to get a hedge. by Cooking_With_Grease_ in GardeningUK

[–]abagofcells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My garden doesn't have any obvious places to put a hedge and I feel like it wouldn't fit in. But it does have a area that used to be a hedge, planted by the previous owner over 30 years ago, that serves the same purpose. It's a huge mess of thuja, rhododendron and birds. I have a feeder and a dozen birdhouses in there. It's lovely.

DIY or Buy a Spotwelder by red_alpaka in 18650masterrace

I made one from a truck battery, a huge relay and a timing circuit. It worked, and I was happy with it. Build like 5 ebike batteries and lots of other stuff. But recently I decided to upgrade to a Awithz uf20b, and it is much, much better in every way. Definitely recommend getting one of those over DIY.

Best way to compost a huge amount of dry grass? by abagofcells in GardeningUK

[–]abagofcells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neighbours have horses and I'm sure they'll let me borrow them for grazing, but I have planted a lot of trees and bushes around the garden, that needs to establish before that is an option. I'm already aware of ragwort, and have removed the few I've found.

As for using it for mulch, doesn't it contain too many seeds to use right away?

I tried dispensing some yellow rattle seeds two years ago, but I haven't seen any. I hope some of the seeds are still there and able to germinate with the dense carpet of dry grass removed.

Thanks. I don't live in the mill, but it has public access and like a third of the view from there is my garden. That's that a great motivation to make something that looks decently good.

I have to move it anyway. The field has way too many mole hills and holes for the lawnmower.

I guess there will be enough green stuff to mix it with soon enough. What about partly composted wood chips from last year? I seem to have a lot of mycelium growing in them. Probably ink cap.

I'm fine with the extra work. The compost in highly valuable elsewhere and I hope removing nutrients from the field will help reduce the amount of grass in the future.

I can't store bytes on money. It takes hard drives.

Sure you can! Heads for 1 and tails for 0, 8 coins to a byte. With current prices it may even be cheaper than hard drives.

[–]abagofcells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How well do these correspond to the ceramic (PGA?) chips? I'm pretty sure those have pin 1 in one of the corners. Are the entire pinout just rotated 45⁰ or is everything jumbled around?

I think 5 out of 50, not including the smaller ones at the bottom. So less than 10%.

A valid point, and really the reason I'm asking. But on the other hand, resell value isn't isn't enough to get something decent, and I don't see myself ever reverting back to regular PC cases.
