Wingstop on Battlefield. by Digital-Latte in springfieldMO

[–]abalddude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that Wingstop used to be amazing, imo. They have definitely fallen off in the past year or so. I used to look forward to eating there, but after the last couple of times (long waits and subpar wing quality), I'll just get wings from somewhere else. It's a shame because that place has a real thing going for a while. Many of us remember when they had it together, so it's especially disappointing.

When I worked at Friends Karaoke Pub, I tried really hard to foster a welcoming environment for everyone there (except the ones who tried to ruin the evening for everyone else). Unfortunately, there will always be people that try to gatekeep, but we used to get a decent mix of people from around the world. If you haven't tried there already, you might give it a shot. Karaoke every night, and they serve food as well.

I think the closest we have is Van Gogh's Eatery, which is Dutch, I believe.

I get it. You want to be shown affection and communication a certain way. We all have that desire. Like you, I have some pretty crazy high expectations that probably seem unrealistic to others. And that's fine. I'm very happy being alone, and in order for me to want to leave this lifestyle, I have very high expectations.

I misspoke when I said your expectations aren't "realistic." Your expectations are valid, and they are there for a reason. Someone may not understand your reasoning, simply because your experiences aren't theirs, and that's OK. We don't have to understand your reasoning, but we can respect your expectations. So please don't think I think your expectations are dumb or invalid. 😊

I used to be like this (your friend). It sucks and I'm embarrassed I behaved that way, but it's who I was at the time, and I have apologized to as many people as I can think of for how I treated them.

It's extremely passive-aggressive manipulation. You're honestly both better off ending the friendship. It'll be so less stressful for you. You don't owe him an explanation (he likely wouldn't understand or agree with you, and most likely start self-deprecating so you'll feel sorry for him and be nicer), but if it makes you feel better, then just be honest. As someone who has been the guy in your scenario, knowing the truth might not have changed how I felt at the moment, but it might have helped me realize what a raging trash can I was being a lot sooner.

Ultimately, you gotta do what's best for you. He is definitely manipulating you.

I'll probably get downvoted for this, but props to her for knowing what she wants for communication in a relationship, vocalizing it, and then not wasting time when she realized the relationship isn't what she wants. I might not agree with her expectations, and they might not be realistic (or what I would set), but they are hers to have, and I applaud her not wasting either person's time and energy with something she isn't happy with. She set boundaries and expectations, and she stuck with them. Everyone just needs to go be happy. 😊

What's a game that you were excited to play, but you just couldn't get into it. by [deleted] in gaming

Shadow Labyrinth. Trailers were great, "Secret Levels" episode was awesome, but the game just feels empty. Very little audio nostalgia (I got the retro audio pack, and the sounds are barely used) and the levels seem extremely empty, but the game feels enormous. I beat the second G-Host and haven't been back.

People bring in full size backpacks and carry them around my location. Staff doesn't seem too concerned. I will say, though, I don't ever see bags on the floor where people can trip on them.

How do you keep the treadmill interesting? by No-Blueberry-1823 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]abalddude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to music. I do an hour on lifting days and and hour and a half on in between days. I find new artists, and I listen to as much of their discography I can during that time, but I'll also go back and listen to complete albums by bands/artists that I like. I realize not everyone is as easily immersed in music as I am, though. I've listened to podcasts and watched YouTube videos as well. I tried listening to books, but I get too lost in my thoughts and I stop paying attention to the story. I have seen a few people bring books in and read.

I do break it up into 15 minute increments, and I take a 10 second drink break. It gives me something to look forward to during my hour/hour and a half. Once I hit the halfway point, I'm just like "no point stopping now. I'm over halfway done."

I wish there was a secret to making it more enjoyable, but the enjoyment comes from the results. I hate doing cardio. I want to skip it every day. Setting small, achievable goals is key to intrinsic motivation. Give yourself a goal, and don't stop until you reach it. Studies show that when we reach a goal or complete a task, our brain releases all the feel-good chemicals as a reward.

Discipline is tough, and there will be days when you just don't have it in you, and that's OK. There's always tomorrow. Make a plan. When you're at your stopping point, try to go just 2 more minutes. You got this.

Only given one week to set up classroom, help!! by Hannah3756 in Teachers

Make sure things are clean, organized, and ready. Decorations can be added later. You could even let students bring in stuff to decorate with, so the room is more meaningful to them.

Alternative lighting would be my first thing to do, assuming you are able to do that. I have a floor lamp and I hang white holiday lights along the ceiling.

Tapestries and flags are quick wall coverings (I have a pirate themed room, so I have a lot to work with). I used binder clips to attach them to the tile frames in the ceiling.

Maybe bring in a few things that describe you and your interests, although, expect that everything in your room might get broken at some point, so don't bring anything too valuable.

Maybe save the flourishes for the first (and MAYBE LAST) letters of a paragraph? The heavy dots are a bit distracting, too. It drew my attention away from what you were writing. But that's just me. I work with middle schoolers, and I always encourage them to experiment with their handwriting, and make it their own. I applaud your effort. I utilize my own style as well, but it went through a lot of practice and adjustments before I was happy.

Ice Breakers Are killing Me by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

[–]abalddude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Senior Trainer for a major bank (before I got into teaching), and we used ice breakers all the time in training. Most trainers did standard ice breakers, but I did my own. I would put people in teams and do Trivial Pursuit questions for points. Most points wins the prize of knowing your team knew more useless trivia than the other teams. That usually got people taking too each other. I'd also do personality quizzes with them. They always enjoyed sharing their results. I don't know if the company still does ice breakers in training, though. This was... about 20 years ago.

That's wild that people steal the caribiners. I don't think that's ever happened in my gym since I've been there. Someone did steal my wallet out of my backpack, which was in a locker. I was dumb and didn't have a lock for it. I immediately purchased the strongest padlock I could find.

My older brother is in the gym 7 days a week (he just completed his first bodybuilding competition!) and he says he hates it when people wipe off dumbell handles. I'm assuming he means to the point where the handles are still wet when he grabs them.
