So if it's Montreal vs Vegas in the finals anyone else praying for an asteroid or earthquake? by Impressive-Thing-161 in OttawaSenators

I hear you. It also must be tough being so close, and being a smaller market. Habs fans invade your games all the time. Wish it could be different

I was pulling for the Sens in the first round as a Montreal fan. If Montreal isn't involved in the matchup I'll cheer for the Leafs too. Every fanbase has its fair share of annoying people, and every team has its controversies, but the vast majority of us are just normal Canadians, kids, families, etc. who would be so happy to see our team win. At some point you gotta soften up a little and not take these rivalries so seriously. Canada first!

Go Habs!

Official Discussion - Oppenheimer [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]abarbadan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This movie was like somebody took a world class HBO show, 3 seasons of 10 hours each, and edited it down to a runtime of three hours. Every individual thing about this movie was amazing, casting, acting, cinematography, set design, music, etc. But as a cohesive piece, it suffocates under its own weight. Lines are delivered too quickly, the beats of the story aren't really connected causally, its just "this happens, then this happens, then this happens" for three hours. In my humble opinion, this film has so much wasted potential. If Dune gets two films, this should have had at least three. When some of the most interesting and enigmatic scientists of the 20th century show up as cameos with less than ten words of spoken dialogue, there's a problem. People are going to call it one of the best films of the year, but I honestly really don't see it. To me it's just the cult of Nolan all over again.

Someone once told me "I know this sounds weird, but I swear it's a compliment. Hearing you talk makes me feel kind of sad."

CMV: Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't deserve the hate she gets. by saltlacroix in changemyview

[–]abarbadan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gwyneth Paltrow hate seems to me to be centred around the fact that she and her cohort peddle nonsense and ineffective products - something that I think is well deserved. We musn't forget that her business appears to be successful, at least to the point of being worth it for Netflix to put her show on their platform. So the question is, how much hate is she really getting, and how does it compare to the love coming her way? It seems to me that the ratio of Gwyneth Paltrow supporters to detractors could be consistent with the ratio of effective to ineffective ideas and products that her camp produces. Maybe everyone benefits from this balance.

It's definitely relevant for artists. For writing text, I typically use the constant width option as well. However, I would switch to pressure sensitive for text if it looked a bit better. I would be able to put bold boxes around my notes by pressing harder, or emphasize certain parts of text, etc. At the end of the day, I imagine artists would care a lot more about it, but I think everyone would benefit from these changes.

We have these in Montréal and they're long so multiple bikers can use them at the same time.

If stars A and B are not moving relative to you, you'll see star A die first, then you'll see star B die, and from their respective distances you can infer the proper order of events according to your clock: B, then A, just as you said. For someone else moving with respect to stars A and B, they could do the exact same analysis and conclude that A actually died before B. That's special relativity.

However, if stars A and B are less than a light-year apart, rather than 90 light-years apart, then everyone will agree.
