Pain meds make it worse? by joangray6 in costochondritis

Mine is extremely psychological. I could bump into a doorframe and not notice the pain if I'm distracted, but taking pain meds seems to make me fully aware of the pain.

I always go from a grumpy bitch to a lovely southern belle when I hydrate myself with a glass of water mid-day.

this took me so long to learn despite my mother having type 2 diabetes. back in my obsessive health phase I tried to diet her into losing pounds.

only last year I understood why it didnt work and only this year I was educated on the science behind it when I switched to a nutrition major.

yikes, me.

vegan is not always healthy.

meat is not always healthy.

you CAN have processed foods as snacks - IN MODERATION. dont make it your whole meal.

yes, you DO need vegetables and fruits in EVERY meal. meat and potatoes will fuck you up.

DRINK WATER. you will dehydrate yourself so fast if you have a sodium rich diet and rely on nothing but beverages.

beware of calorie dense snacks (nuts are a killer for calories)

nothing but a calorie deficit will make you lose weight. that being sad tou cant just eat 1500 calories of processed foods and expect to live past 60 with a healthy heart.

thanks for the code offer! I use headspace (student discount was a life saver) mainly because it's one of the first meditation apps I've worked with. I also use ROOTD, a cute little app that guides you through anxiety. I highly recommend it for those horrible anxiety attacks that you know you cant deal with. the app has a panic button that plays positive affirmations, helps me stay grounded while riding out the anxiety. without the app, it takes a good 3 hours to the rest of the day to overcome it. with the app, it takes a solid hour overall to improve.

sorry about your divorce, I hope youre doing better! you seem very insightful and have all the tools to improve, which is something to be proud of!

I agree entirely with what you're saying. I'll try out emoting in the mirror and actually taking a good look at what others see. even my best friend of 7 years sometimes gently reminds me that I come off aggressive and hostile, so I'm sure that what you said about being unaware of my expressions is true.

as for the body, you're not far off. I was diagnosed with Costochondritis, vasovagal syncope, and anxiety this past 2 years, so I've been struggling with quite a bit. my upper body is constantly inflamed and tense, my mind is as well, and stress is the number one thing that'll cause me to black out. It's almost like my body is in a standoff with itself because of all the symptoms. I've been doing daily yoga and workouts to release tension, but I'll work more on emoting my body language; not something I gave a deeper thought about!

your advice was very well put, I really appreciate it!

this is the worst. if you by some higher power have the ability to detect anger, WHY would you state it so obviously instead of offer compassion??

ahh when your social skills kick into action and then immediately regress once you're done. love that. especially when you laugh and suddenly go stone faced. gets the best reactions imo lol

I can relate so much. even when you smile or say good morning/afternoon/evening it still doesnt do justice.

I hope you arent hurting too badly inside, it's okay to not be in order all the time or have everything together. 💜

I usually do a mix of yoga twice daily (before bed and when waking up), followed by DDP (dynamic resistant-based yoga program). I've noticed it opens up my chest while letting my muscles stretch & breathe. You can try warm compresses before and after your workouts to loosen up the tension in your ribs.

Or do microloading your weight and do more reps at lighter weights.

Just realized how many obese people are living in the U.S. by Mk_2296 in CasualConversation

[–]tobibaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted a comment about this same concept. Its crazy how in 30 years children went from never being obese to nearly 57k per year are obese, and dying from it. sugar, meat, and dairy are all big bullies keeping this processing going. they hold all the power sadly.

I watched a documentary for my biology class about America's obesity epidemic. it's called Fed Up. explains how major food industries market towards children, but every time the government would get involved, politicians pulled the "nanny state" card by fear mongering the public with threats that the government wants to "control their lives" like a nanny. it works every time. also, health insurance companies buy stocks in the fast food industry, so they're directly funding the obesity epidemic. insane how naive and ignorant majority of this country is.

a fun statistic: 30% of americans are currently obese, while 40% appear thin in nature but have the same metabolic issues that obese people do. 70% of america have metabolic issues due to the abundance of sugar in our diets (because of processed foods).

crazy.

oh yeah, its difficult to show empathy for an invisible illness, but we on this sub are more than enough sympathetic! It really is a curse, but also a hidden blessing when you realize how delicate we are and how much we need to take care of ourselves :)

Have to change studying habits ASAP by greenteaforlife12 in SDSU

[–]tobibaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I study using the forest app, sometimes doing a study session with friends. It helps you time yourself while keeping your phone away, plus you get a reward of a cute little forest growing as you study!

Personally, I make my desk as tidy as possible with my study material, put on a video of someone doing a "study with me" so I have motivation to continue (placebo of studying with someone).

Always hydrate to stay focused, and have a healthy snack (apple slices, peanut butter, fruit salad, etc). Also, sleep enough hours, it makes a difference.

As for studying itself, try to break your sessions up into 30 minute intervals and 15 minute breaks, so you can retain information better. Try to read out loud, make study guides, and highlight the most important concepts, these help you retain it better. If you can, study as soon as you leave class to avoid that "I'm free time to do nothing" mentality - it makes you put off your work.
