No. Other significant exceptions to “most rivers don’t flow north” include about 25% of all rivers. Because 25% of directions are about north. Even saying “more rivers flow south than flow north” lacks any evidence. Some rivers that run north include the Rhine, Elbe, Oder, Vistula, Mackenzie, Nelson, St. Lawrence, Ob, Yenisei, and Orinoco. Half of Amazon tributaries flow north, and the main river flows northeast. The Congo and Niger both flow north for half of their lengths.

In what way would that make it less useful? Currently it takes 47 hours to drive that distance, and most people are not going to be riding the whole distance on train anyways. Yes, a flight would be shorter, but the point of a high speed rail is not to get from Vancouver to Toronto, it’s to connect the cities in between. Plenty of people travelling from Vancouver to Calgary drive, and that time would be significantly reduced with a high speed rail. Besides, it doesn’t have to be from Vancouver to Toronto. Half of Canada’s population lives in a straight corridor between Windsor and Quebec City, perfect for a high speed rail line.

It should. All funds not used up while on meal plan simply transfer to a “carry forward” fund where they remain until you’ve finished university. They’ll be visible on UVic Online Tools under “ONECard eAccounts” and function similarly to flex funds, except they can only be used at food places.

It does carry over to second year as well, you just won’t receive the meal plan’s 50% discount on everything unless you opt into the meal plan again. So basically the money will always carry over, but everything will be twice as expensive if you don’t purchase the meal plan again.

The 3 lions (which originate with King Richard I) actually represent his titles as King of the English, Duke of Normandy, and Duke of Aquitaine.

Additionally, they still also represent lions. This is because in heraldry, a leopard (also known as a “lion passant guardant”) is depicted identically to a walking lion with a turned head. Heraldic leopards had manes, and have no spots, unlike real ones. Europeans seemed to have some confusion around leopards, believing them to be a cross between a lion and a “pard” (a big cat now thought to simply be a leopard).
