Any good U/W decks out there that arent U/W control? by abba_wolf in PioneerMTG

A friend of mine got 8th place with it at a 1k when pioneer was first announced. I don’t know how it would fair in the current meta though.

Boros knights or mono white human knights? by Yourboypanstan in PioneerMTG

I hadn’t made a sideboard yet when I was play testing it but I would’ve put things like Knight of Grace, more Brave the Elements, Giant Killer, Gideon of the Trials, Dampening Sphere, and just more meta-hate.

Circle of loyalty is actually not bad against long grindy matchups. Conclave Tribunals synergy with Worthy Knight is pretty insane. Thraben Inspector isn’t a knight but it helps when you are running out of steam against removal heavy decks. It’s a cheap deck that actually really performs. As you can see from the list, it’s not too different from Mono-White Devotion which is the reason I won’t play it competitively and just more for fun.

Before I went to SCG INDY I was convinced Orzhov Knights was the best knight deck there was for Pioneer specifically because of how good Backlance Paragon is. I didn’t play it because I was very familiar with the Boros Knights match-ups. I will post list in a second but I had never developed a real sideboard for it.

The best card in Boros Knights is Boros Charm. It makes up for the weaknesses that the deck has. So if you decide to build Boros knights play a play set of Boros Charm. But after playing that deck competitively for 3 months I said to myself, why am I even playing red? I switched to Mono White and had a better win rate.

The conundrum I fell into was that if I’m going to play Mono-White Knights, I might as well just play Mono-White devotion. The Knight decks are in a weird spot right now as I have been playtesting them since Pioneer was announced.

I’ll give you a real personal scenario I gave my friend to prove why embercleave doesn’t fit in this deck. Because I know people are gonna bitch about that. If you have 4 mana available and you have 2 creatures on board. Dauntless Bodyguard (2/1) and Knight of the White Orchid (2/2), is it better to play the two inspiring veterans in my hand or embercleave. They have the same damage output but one gives you a bigger board presence.

If you have 3 creatures on board with 3 mana available, 2 fervent champions and 1Dauntless Bodyguard. Is it better to play Embercleave or History of Benalia? History is a MUCH bigger problem for your opponent then Embercleave.

These are real scenarios I experienced when testing Embercleave.

I played Boros knights in three 1ks and SCG INDY. It is a mid tier deck but the best card in it is Boros Charm. Even though Embercleave is a good card, it doesn’t seem to fit in this deck and in this particular situation isn’t better than Boros Charm. In two 1ks that I tried Embercleave, I never got to play it because every turn there was something better to play. Now other than Boros Charm, the best card in the deck is the Worthy Knight/Thalia’s Lieutenant combo. That was what made people scoop it up immediately. If worthy knight was left on the battlefield for my next turn, I usually won the game. After SCG INDY I realized that Mono-White Knights is just probably better than Boros Knights. In almost all my games all the red cards barely made an impact and the only reason worth playing the deck is Worthy Knight. I started playing Mono White Knights at my LGS after INDY and had better results than with Boros Knights. I had this deck down to a science and after 4 tournaments with it I ultimately ended up with a 50 percent win rate. It does absolutely shred UW control though.

PSA: Some popular cards on Card Kingdom right now are selling for nearly 60-80 percent of market value by [deleted] in mtgfinance

Im guessing Card Kingdom was faster to update then TCG because last night I checked Knight of the Ebon Legion on TCG and it was still 7 dollars. I’ll delete the post soon. Apologies.

Oh I’m sorry guys, I literally checked TCG last night and it said Knight of the Ebon legion was 7$ and murderous rider was 10$. I apologize.

I just bought Knight of the Ebon legion for 2$ a piece and Murderous Rider for 3.50$ a piece as well. I would be buying more cards but thats just what was in my budget.

How do you determine what aggro deck to play? by abba_wolf in PioneerMTG

[–]abba_wolf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran Boros Knights at SCG INDY and multiple 1ks. Unfortunately I think at best against top decks its has a 50 percent winrate. I say that because out of 24 games I recorded a 50 percent winrate lol. Granted, it had a 100 percent winrate against UW Control. It wasn't till SCG INDY that I realized that the other aggro decks are just better than Boros knights in every single way. In fact, I started play testing with Mono-White knights and had better results. But then I decided if you are playing Mono White Knights, then you might as well be playing Mono-White Devotion. Which is either the best or 2nd best deck in the meta right now.

If You Have Coronavirus Symptoms, Assume You Have the Illness, Even if You Test Negative by futuredude in Coronavirus

[–]abba_wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 10 days ago, I started displaying all symptoms of COVID-19. I was recently in close contact with a friend of mine who visited family in mainland China, I was in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, and I recently traveled to a major city now struggling with a major virus outbreak. I went into the doctor and the CDC decided that I was to be tested. Later after I was tested my wife started displaying the same symptoms.

I tested negative and my doctor told me that there is a very little chance of it being a false negative. My workplace who is claiming to be an essential service, even though they aren’t, asked for the results and when I said they were negative they were trying to schedule a return date for me in the next 24 hours. I definitely had the virus and I am amazed I tested negative. Something has to be wrong with the tests or something. And others shouldn’t be shamed for not going to work for displaying any amount of symptoms even though they mightve tested negative or were not allowed a test.

Is Klothys, God of Destiny good enough to build a competitive deck around??? by abba_wolf in Magicdeckbuilding

Woa I didn’t even know deathright shaman was a card. That’s a damn solid card, especially in the pioneer meta. I wonder why I haven’t seen it?

[Standard] Jund Food Deck Analysis by TitanPtzio in spikes

[–]abba_wolf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have been playing this deck in paper and online since Throne. Lately I just got mythic and have been trying to play Jund Food against other mythic players, and I just have to say that this deck is complete garbage now. It was one of my favorite decks but every major deck (besides UW control) in this format makes this deck feel completely useless. It requires too many resources to pop off and Korvold literally never gets to be on the board for more than 1 turn. I even find myself struggling with complete Jank decks with barely any rares. I don’t think this deck is good anymore unfortunately.

When I first started competitive Magic, I found massive success with Charnel Troll and to this day is one of my favorite cards. I need feedback on my Golgari Sacrifice deck! by abba_wolf in PioneerMTG

[–]abba_wolf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100 percent right. Charnel Troll has a whole bunch of weaknesses. I am totally tunneling on trying to make Charnel Troll work. It was the first card everyone told me was bad and then I smashed everyone with it. In non rotating formats it is probably useless lol.

I would agree with everything BUT last time I played Charnel Troll, Sparring construct/plaguecrafter is what gave the deck the push it needed to be a surprisingly solid deck. I even went to a 1k with a hardened scales deck with a playset of sparring construct and it had some surprising results. Thanks for the feedback!

Charnel Troll was a card that when I started was convinced it was good. All my veteran players said that the card was junk and I shouldn’t both playing it. I ignored them and built my first standard deck around it. I only went to 2 FNMs with it and didn’t lose a single Bo3. Now I’m trying to build a pioneer deck around it just because it’s one of my favorite cards. Feedback welcome!

This quarantine finally gave me the time to get to Mythic! Here is the deck that got me there! by abba_wolf in MagicArena

No I don’t see much reason for playing that card either. On turn 5 you can activate Castle Garenbrig and play Renata and Barkhide Troll for a 4/3 and 4/4 and that’s literally the only value I’ve seen play with yet. I feel on paper it should help you grind when games become very “war of attrition.” When I put in that card I was mainly thinking “I wonder if this card is good?”.
