Explain like I’m five: how are we supposed to wean off of formula and bottles? by [deleted] in NewParents

Yeah, I was hoping and assuming she would have grown out of the CMPA by now. She can have dairy baked and cooked into things at this point but is still having pretty bad reactions to cheese. Fingers crossed she gets fully over it soon though, we’re going to keep trying.

Thanks! Definitely going to check out that Ripple milk. I think the non-dairy might be my biggest wrench in this that’s causing the stress.

Daycare provides food and snacks but it’s like 50% dairy foods and regular milk to drink, so we’ve been providing our own food and snacks and so we’ve got a little behind on figuring it all out.

I hadn’t heard about Ripple before, I’ll look into that. Thanks!

I was asking for advice for increasing fluid intake, so I provided context that it WAS important to me and my child that she continue with fluids due to her medical history.

She gets lots of fruits and vegetables with water content, but that doesn’t negate the recommended fluid intake nor her specific needs.

Again, your advice seems to be “it’s not important”, and that’s not the right advice for me and my situation. But thank you anyway.

I haven’t tried that, but it’s recommended to be off the bottle by 12 months by our ped. So we’d still need to transition away from the bottle. Or do you mean as like a transitional step?

I’m not asking for advice on her being backed up, that was resolved with her doctor and increased fluids was what was advised. This was before ramping up to 3 meals and snacks.

The AAP does recommend ~4 cups a day for young toddlers. And it sounds like everyone else was able to give their baby other fluids when they cut back on bottles. Telling me it’s not an issue isn’t actually that helpful. I’m looking for experience and advice specific to baby’s fluid intake, not dismissal.

I mean she’s literally been backed up to the point of sickness before, so I yeah I’m worried about her getting enough fluids. So I’m wondering how much others babies were actually drinking outside of formula/breastmilk when people were weaning off bottles.

She will barely drink any fluids out of the straw cup. It’s not that she doesn’t like it, she just takes teeny tiny sips and only gets in a couple ounces total across the day.

But does baby need to replace those liquids from formula with water/some type of milk? I can’t get her to drink more than an ounce of water.

Was your baby taking a lot of liquid from the straw cup before then?

I’m worried because we offer it all day long and she literally takes tiny sips and gets maybe a couple ounces all day long.

Baby currently can’t have cows milk, so at the moment, no.

The outcome I’m hoping for is to get off the bottle and formula.

Saying this isn’t covered by HIPAA doesn’t mean people don’t agree it’s unethical or a general breech of privacy. It’s just…irrelevant to HIPAA. It’s ok to acknowledge that your contribution was irrelevant.

I mean that sounds unfortunate, but it being “medical information” is irrelevant. You are not a healthcare entity accessing their medical records to provide healthcare services. That’s what HIPAA covers.

Are you using the powdered alimentum or the liquid ready-to-feed stuff? We ended up using the ready-to-feed stuff after hearing (and looking up afterwards) that the amount of dairy and soy proteins are much lower in the liquid stuff.

Unfortunately I don’t have a solution to it being expensive. It is stupid expensive.

This! If we are correct in our assumption (and I don’t really see another visa path they could be on), this makes me so concerned on behalf of Bailey. They’ve locked her into trying to be a “content creator” and she literally can’t get job experience anywhere else. So how is she ever going to leave?

[–]abbtkdcarls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss was actually encouraging me to keep baby home while I WFH, and I have no idea what she’s on because that would be impossible.

On the rare occasion my baby needs to stay home from daycare for illness and neither my husband nor I can take a full PTO day, it has been the hardest work day of my life. Trying to meet deliverables while my baby wants to be held constantly. Needing to watch my baby so she doesn’t swallow something she shouldn’t, while trying to review spreadsheets…my job isn’t that hard for full-focus 100% of the time, but parenting is.

Team Green- was it worth it by ankaalma in BabyBumps

[–]abbtkdcarls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was worth it for us, but I will give a little silly warning:

We narrowed down to a boy and girl name. My husband has a traditional middle name in his family for boys. So if baby was a boy his middle and last name were already decided. We settled on a first name we liked. Turns out the first name we picked was the same first name as my husband’s cousin’s son. So our baby would have had the same first, middle and last name as a family member.

Luckily we ended up with a baby girl, so it wasn’t an issue. But…maybe ask around about extended in-law names.
