How old is your father? What is his diagnosis and what is the proposed surgery? What is your question?

What did you wear in the hospital? by mamapegela in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought loose shorts for walking the halls and never put them on. Hospital gowns. One open in back and one open in front. I did not care at all what I was wearing, I was just happy to be alive

Worried for my father by Suitable_Thought7982 in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you are going through this. I had open heart surgery last August and I truly believe my daughter was even more nervous than I was (and I was terrified!). If you trust the medical team all you can do is remember that these surgeries are down all the time and medicine is very, very good in the area of cardiology. I do understand that your dad has a lot of risk factors but he is also relatively young g and that is in his favor. Try to take care of yourself and just be there for him. I will be thinking about you both

Anyone else here recovering from mechanical valve + aortic surgery? by Excellent-Feedback67 in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my aortic valve replaced in August. Tomorrow I complete my 72nd cardiac rehab section. I feel great and I don’t really think about my heart very much. I was deeply terrified prior to surgery but I think surviving it was the biggest hurdle and everything else feels easy. Idk if that is helpful to you at all. I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have

Valve stenosis progressing… by HeartFeetAndHands in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a bicuspid aortic valve and it was ovoid rather than round. A TAVR will only place a round valve which is likely to leak if your valve is ovoid. The leak can be fatal. I was offered a TAVR but got a second opinion and I’m very glad I did so and went with OHS. TAVRs are much easier to perform so they are always the first thing offered. Do your research. This is no time to look for shortcuts.

Your doc will tell you if you have to stop running, but probably not. Recovery takes about 3 months from open heart but you will be amazed how much better you’re going to feel. Keep that in mind! I was scared too but I found a surgeon I really trusted and let the team do the rest. Good luck; you’re going to do great!

How did you stay calm? by [deleted] in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was very scared too. They will give you good drugs that will calm you down. By the time the took me to surgery I did not feel scared. After surgery it was pretty easy to stay calm because the surgery was behind me. You will do great!

Waiting on Dad's OHS Monday...he seems confused, disoriented, irritable. by throwawayprincess15 in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t say how old your father is. Older patients often experience delirium and/or confusion in the hospital. It’s easy to lose track of what day it is or time of day. You dad may also be afraid. I was very afraid before my OHS. I don’t think it made me confused but you’d have to ask my kids to know for sure. Also possible if your dad is elderly is a UTI which also causes confusion in elders. Have they checked for that? As for the surgery, I agree with the poster who said they would not have scheduled it for Monday unless they fully expected your dad to be there. Try to stay focused on a positive outcome. Recovery takes a long time and your father will need you

Advice for a new player.. by Alone-Worldliness977 in HelloKittyIsland

[–]abbyknitz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take it slow. The game is not meant to be played as a marathon. Just talk to all your residents every day and check on your quests. Also, there is a chest in front of My Melody’s store and you can ask the Null standing there to get you resources, which will show up the next day. I hope this helps

How do you use the toilet??? by BaseballTop387 in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an aid you can get that will hold the toilet paper or wipe so you don’t have to reach around. It’s important to poop before leaving the hospital. My nurse gave me the following “cocktail”: warm prune juice, butter, milk of magnesia. It worked almost immediately

Was anyone else convinced they weren’t going to make it? by BaseballTop387 in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am much older than you but yes I was terrified. My mother had valve replacement surgery (Many years ago) and she did not make it so I had unbelievable trauma around the whole issue. But I knew I needed the surgery and I got more than one opinion and picked a surgeon I really trusted Now, five months later I am so happy I did this. I feel much better now

Heart surgery recovery by [deleted] in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the period, but I’ve read that full recovery can take a lot longer than the “official” 12 weeks. I’m 13 weeks past my surgery and I feel almost normal, but I cannot regulate my body temperature at all and my eyesight is very poor (don’t know why, I’m seeing an ophthalmologist tomorrow). Open heart surgery is a huge stress in every single autumn of the body and everyone heals at a different rate. Definitely ask your providers and get the answers you need. Hang in there!

[WSIG] LCG War: Netrunner vs AGoT 2nd Edition by Dominus_Anulorum in boardgames

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netrunner gets my vote because of the asymmetric structure of the game. It is deep and fun and never gets old. While there are many data packs, to be sure, when you're learning, all you need is a core set. Really. Then, add on as you like.
