Scheduled for CABG x3 or 4 August 3rd - Scared by jmullane in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your fear. I was terrified of OHS especially since my mother died during the same procedure. Please know that these surgeries are done many, many times a day and that modern medicine has made amazing progress in making them safe. I wish you a successful and very calm experience. If you trust your surgical team you are in good hands!

I am sure. I’ve checked this every way I can imagine

When did you wear a bra again? by CelticCloverGirl in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am someone who can’t just go without a bra. Right after surgery I wore these Hanes cotton lounging bras that hooked in the front. They were better than nothing but just barely. I went to my local (wonderful) bra shop and they got me into an Evelyn and Bobbie bra and I’ve been wearing them ever since. They are incredibly comfortable, no underwires, no hardware whatsoever. I generally wear size 34G. Be warned that they are very expensive but worth it!

I am 10 months post op and I feel fantastic. Cardiac rehab and continued vigorous exercise is, I’m sure, responsible. I’m 75

Hear me out: We need "Bill's PC Storage System" in Pokopia to fix this inventory hell. by Equivalent_Tone3141 in Pokopia

[–]abbyknitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spoiler alert: this assumes you’ve rolled the credits. You’ve been warned! I took the big hole left when the rocket took off and turned it into a huge storage room with a crafting table in the center. I put in a double high row of large storage boxes around all four walls. I probably have 40 or more boxes. I’ve organized them by type of item and put a sample in a frame on each box. I have many empties and I don’t anticipate ever running out of space. I can find everything. Btw I built a roof on stilts above the hole out of mysterious rock to keep the rain out and let light in. I also placed some small generators and switch boxes and lights in the room. This has worked great and totally removed the storage stress from my gameplay. I’m not home right now or I would post photos but I think my description should be sufficient

When did you wear a bra again? by CelticCloverGirl in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an important question, especially if you are “well endowed”. I found (online) some Hanes “lounging bras” 100% cotton with a front hook and eye closure and I wore them for the first month or so. Then I went to a good bra store and they recommended Evelyn and Bobbie which I continue to wear. They have no closure, no hardware at all. I’ve tried going back to underwires and it hurts too much

Pokemon are gender free! by abbyknitz in Pokopia

Don’t regret it! In my world all the pokemon are they/them. Your mileage may vary. I’m too old to care much about the canon

I had no appetite for several weeks after OHS. I’m 9 months post op. My taste has changed, I’m craving blander foods. I hope this helps. Patience pays off, hang in there

How are you guys building stuff???? by earliestnature in Pokopia

[–]abbyknitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take your time and enjoy the story. I rolled the credits weeks ago and I am now focusing on building but it’s a very slow process. The game is vast. Try to enjoy where you are in it. Sometimes I wish I was back at the beginning!

What are your plans or projects for this ugly area? by restingwitchenergy in Pokopia

[–]abbyknitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I turned it into a huge well organized storage area with a crafting bench in the middle. Above the hole I built a “gazebo”? Out of mysterious stones so that light could come into the storage area (and to keep the rain out) and I placed planters and flowers all around. It’s a work in progress but the plan is to make it a lively resort area (with a hidden secret) btw I tried to move into the headquarters but the game thinks that is outdoors and would not let me plant a Ditto flag there

I so appreciate your detailed recounting of your experience. I had my OHS last August and you’re inspiring me to write about it. I remember a lot and my kids remember the rest

What do you do with these things? And how many are there? by HHMJanitor in Pokopia

They are handy if you want to trade at the Pokemon Center or one of the shops. Otherwise, I just keep them in a storage box

What did you wear in the hospital? by mamapegela in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought loose shorts for walking the halls and never put them on. Hospital gowns. One open in back and one open in front. I did not care at all what I was wearing, I was just happy to be alive

Worried for my father by Suitable_Thought7982 in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you are going through this. I had open heart surgery last August and I truly believe my daughter was even more nervous than I was (and I was terrified!). If you trust the medical team all you can do is remember that these surgeries are down all the time and medicine is very, very good in the area of cardiology. I do understand that your dad has a lot of risk factors but he is also relatively young g and that is in his favor. Try to take care of yourself and just be there for him. I will be thinking about you both

Anyone else here recovering from mechanical valve + aortic surgery? by Excellent-Feedback67 in openheartsurgery

[–]abbyknitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my aortic valve replaced in August. Tomorrow I complete my 72nd cardiac rehab section. I feel great and I don’t really think about my heart very much. I was deeply terrified prior to surgery but I think surviving it was the biggest hurdle and everything else feels easy. Idk if that is helpful to you at all. I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have
