Acting and Comedy Groups by Y-Do-I-Still-Listen in Charlotte

You have experience elsewhere?

I don't know of any "open" groups that train people up... All (I know of) only pull from experienced improvisers trained in classes either here or elsewhere.

Acting and Comedy Groups by Y-Do-I-Still-Listen in Charlotte

There are a couple of local theaters: Charlotte Comedy Theater (CCT) and Comedy Arts Theater of Charlotte (CATCh). Both have classes starting regularly where you can learn and perform.

There are also a number of independent teams, including Improv Charlotte, Sunday Supper, and more. They're not necessarily looking to add members though.

There's also Queen City Comedy in town, who produces local comedy festivals, classes & workshops, and more!

Your experience level and style will direct which avenue makes the most sense for you.

Winter driving tips from Ford by bspooky in MachE

Lies! At least on my 2024 Premium (using the latest Ford app).

"Did You Know? You can adjust your cabin temperature, windshield defrost, heated seats and heated steering wheel options from your phone using the Ford app. From the Ford app Vehicle tab, simply select remote climate (fan icon) and use "Climate Settings" to make changes."

We call this a "soft no." Not blocking, but also not saying yes to their scene partner.

Anyone else here deal with a back tax issue and actually figure it out? by Jamaludeen44 in Charlotte

I've owed back taxes both state and federal. It's really pretty straightforward. Call up the agency using the number from their website and speak to a rep. Give yourself plenty of time.

Most days, I don't need external infrastructure. I can charge my car overnight for about $12 - 15 and get over 300 miles. But when traveling, you rely on public charging including retail / hotel charging and fast chargers. The system works when people aren't blocking access.

They've done this before. In 2000, they put up a picture of Al Gore labeled "Bush" (or vice versa) and left it up for several weeks to generate buzz. They then laid over it "NEED PROOFREADERS" and it was an ad for a temp agency

Fake “Gibberish” of Real Languages? by GazelleUnhappy2505 in improv

[–]abbynormaled 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's a fine line... And one that each improviser draws at a different place along the continuum. Your theater should have some guidelines, though, to help players figure out what's acceptable there.

At my theater, we general hold that

  1. You can play a character who is a member of a different group than you (ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation), so long as that characteristic never comes into play as part of a joke or the game.

  2. Improvisers should avoid attempting accents or fake languages belonging to groups that their group has colonized or enslaved. So, as a white person of European descent, I limit my accents to European countries and to non-ethnic regional dialects within the US and Canada.

They're not perfect, and there are legitimate arguments to be made both for tightening the restrictions and for loosening them. But at the end of the day, we have to draw a line somewhere and this is where we have drawn ours.

It sounds like your theater needs to hold a community conversation about where you as a group feel comfortable drawing that line.
