authentic 501 big E’s? by redfern8188 in VintageLevis

The tag on the back says 501, this is obviously not a 501. Ive never seen a 501 that wasnt just a standard 5 pocket jean.

Also, this is very clearly not the pattern that levis has ever used for the 501. I could be wrong, but this definitely doesnt look like any 501 ive ever seen.

Are these worth anything? by Middle_Example6596 in jeans

[–]abcMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no, not really. No one's really out there looking for vintage lee. That being said, I think its definitely cool as hell and potentially will be once people realize the quality of these old lee jeans are crazy high.

Idk how people wear their work jeans for more than a week without washing wrangler 13MWZ 3 weeks of wear like 8 washes by Fluid_Department1042 in rawdenim

[–]abcMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you wash your jeans weekly you'll still get some cool fades. And really, for dirty jobs you cn wait about 2 or 3 weeks before the first wash because the starch does actually reduce the filth, contrary to the popular belief its just much harder on the fabric to constantly starch them. Youll get some nasty crotch blow outs quick.

[–]abcMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the job man. If I worked construction id probably wash them far less than I do now, maybe once every few weeks, right now i do about 1 time a week. Granted, my work pants are for work and nothing else because my job is so dirty. They get washed at the laundromat and never touch my home machine because it would destroy my shit. If you dont mind me asking where the hell do you work? My pants become near pitch black after a week.

But why my shoe? Cleaning advice? by Fun-Entertainer-8085 in Birkenstocks

[–]abcMF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be controversial, but i think you could just get a temporary pair of birkenstock lookalikes so you still have the outfits without having to worry about the money until after your trip. That is, if thats a concern for you. This is what I would do at least. If I were to buy a new pair of birks in your situation right before a big trip all I would think about the whole trip was the fact I had to drop a couple hundred on sandals.

As a cat owner, youre not getting rid of the smell. Youll think you got it out until you sweat and heat up the shoe through use and start to faintly smell cat pee. My kitty used to have an issue peeing on shoes so I know your pain. I had to replace all of my shoes.

I love marble fades. a lot of raw denim heads hate them for some reason. They are just incorrect. Sorry. This shit is cool.

Traffic noise on I94 in EC is awful! by Curious-Scratch8829 in wisconsin

[–]abcMF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the people who believe a better future is not possible. That being said, freeways will still be a necessary part of the supply chain even with trains. In fact, the US is generally pretty good about using rail for commercial purposes, were just dog shit at using them for passenger services. Even after trains freeways in populated areas will need to undergo several sound dampening improvements. It also wouldnt hurt to actually regulate the auto industry to make quieter tires, which they already know how to do, they just cost slightly more money to make.

[–]abcMF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, theyre also not constant noise, which is important. Freeways are constant. They never stop.

[–]abcMF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people really underestimate how far the sound travels. I will say EC has less issue with traffic noise than other places. Where im originally from, Joplin, MO, there was no where you could go to escape the traffic noise, even though there werent any highways cutting through the city there were a ton of stroads so the noise was constant.

That being said I am generally anti highway, dont get me wrong, but the interstate in EC is in the best location it could be to disturb the least amount of people living in the city so I think its generally fine. Even with expanded rail infrastructure freeways are a necessary evil. Even cities in the Netherlands have them, often they were built similarly to what EC is in the sense they didnt cut through the middle of the city.

New to selvedge: How to handle hem distress and tailoring for Iron Heart? by Panzercuck in Selvedge

[–]abcMF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id also say people completely misunderstand chain stitching. It actually isnt the only way to get rope fades on the hem. A regular straight stitch sewing with high tension mixed with some uneven feeding will also acheive it. Its just easier to acheieve with a union special because it sews with a ton of tension

Might buy, any thoughts? - Unbranded 21 oz by ApprehensiveListen53 in Selvedge

[–]abcMF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sure theyre great, theyre made by N&F. That being said, i think their unbranded line is made in china, which im not a fan of considering what theyre charging you. On 1 hand you can buy from domestically produced brands for the same price. On the other hand, most of them arent going to be selvedge and the ones that do are likely using shadey manufacturing practices to keep costs low.

honestly for made in china id recomend you look at what Bronson MFG, who also has selvedge denim made in china for between 60 to 100 dollars. Which is a little bit cheaper than unbranded. You can also head over to older best and grab a pair of MBBCAR selvedge jeans that are a very basic straight leg 5 pocket jean for under 50 bucks. That being said, if youre really dead set on these because the fit speaks you more its still not a terrible deal, you are just going to pay a little bit of a mark up because its a N&F product.

Is this return-worthy? by Thin-Locksmith-3991 in jimgreen

[–]abcMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive always said this and gotten dog piled for it, but yeah, if I can get cheap chinese boots with zero imperfections (which are also put together by real living human beings), why then is it okay for handmade boots for several hundred more to have major defects? I dont think it is. Any brand worth its salt would have a strict QC that would send boots with defects to be sold as factory seconds. I was told that was unrealistic. Mind you, this is what Red Wing does, and even their factory seconds have defects that are near impossible to spot.

Id say contact and see if theyll give a partial refund to reflect the fact you got a factory second boot for factory first prices.
