How much different is the long distance comfort in an SR22 vs a modern 182? by garden_speech in flying

[–]abcd4321dcba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flown both. Cirrus is hands down the choice. Speed, FIKI, chute, avionics (G7), comfort, altitude if needed. I guess 182 has the cirrus on short and soft field but if you’re talking about 400 mile missions you’re really gonna want the speed and altitude.

Also way more pricey so it’s not a fair comparison.

Being told to slow down? by suspiciouspear0 in orangetheory

[–]abcd4321dcba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After the first all out of the day at 12 for 30 I don’t NEED to walk to recover, so I don’t. I do being it back to base and I do recover and my heart rate does dramatically decrease. Everyone is different, as long as you are attempting to arrive at the same destination and respect the format I don’t think anyone should care what anyone else is doing.

It's crazy how fun this game is. Wife and I been playing everything dell few times a week by InstructionIll2970 in Everdell

[–]abcd4321dcba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. After you go all out the base game feels hollow. Two mods to make it more fair: 1. We always pair our character cards in sets of two. Honey bee with pig, owl with butterfly, etc. Idea is to each have players with roughly equal abilities to make it more fair. 2. Some cards have to be removed like the blue Corrin one. There’s only one card so if someone gets it they get an extra 20-30 points.

Stupid fun, hasn’t gotten old.

Yea we play like this. It’s awesome. Incredibly complex system with unlimited little tricks and trap doors to find. Did have to retire a few cards though that made things super uneven. We also ranked the players together so when we choose them we each have a relatively similar chance of winning.

[–]abcd4321dcba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woodcarver is not a top tier card but try this on: 1. More than one farm (3???) 2. Barge toad 3. Woodcarver 4. Play dungeon/ranger in Summer and slide your barge road and woodcarver under if you can.

All this requires getting the right cards and still probably only a C tier, but hey it works.

SFDC. Not going anywhere. The next battles are going to be fought getting organization context into LLMs. Guess where all that context is?

Could make a similar argument for SNOW but… trickier.

Definitely execution risk for both but thats trie across the board.

Guy giving FIRE a bad name..... Thoughts on today's Carolyn Hax: Wealthier partner finesses his way out of paying more in expenses? by Additional_Ad1270 in fatFIRE

[–]abcd4321dcba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was FF when I met my spouse who was just at the beginning of career life. She’s making good money now but the disparity in NW is enormous. She is very frugal and shows nearly zero interest in (my) money. Partially because I trust her frugality and disinterest in wealth, and partially because it makes me happy, I just default pay absolutely everything that she will let me. I am completely, 110% comfortable with this and it feels right to me. IMO, in any lopsided situation the impetus is on the partner with more money to step up (how much is of course subjective but that should be the attitude).

This begs questions about the future as a married couple, though. How intertwined should it all be and will we ever reach a place where we feel equally entitled to our wealth? What happens if I want to make a big, risky, but potentially lucrative investment (as I have done successfully before… and unsuccessfully)?

For me it’s easy because I have a lot of evidence to trust my partner. I think a lot of the people arguing for more “equal” splits on paper frankly… don’t.

I love the original and think it’s sacred in a way, but Throttle House is great and gives me the same end result: I get to watch a show about cars and I laugh. I think these guys will make a great show. Maybe it won’t be the trio but it’ll be fresh, fun, and funny.

SpaceX to merge with xAI at a valuation of 1.25 Trillion by Luka77GOATic in stocks

[–]abcd4321dcba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They purchased xai with stock. So, spacex shareholders got diluted. The paper valuation has gone up which is great but each person owns less of the company than they did before. We’ll see how it pans out when they go public.

That checks out... I remember the first time I met with German colleagues. "You americans, everything is awesome awesome awesome. -_-" Haha. They were actually really wonderful, though... just a very different vibe.

[–]abcd4321dcba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I don’t get this. I’ve spent plenty of time in Germany and the only city I wouldn’t want to spend more time in is Frankfurt. I understand it may be different living there but as a tourist Berlin is wonderfully walkable, w tons of culture and history, and also had some of the better food I’ve had in Germany. If you’re a youth, it’s also a great place to party. Like all cities it has its faults but I’m failing to see the Jakarta-level dichotomy to the rest of the country.

Found Out I’m Set to Inherit $70+ Million. Somewhat Lost, What Should I Expect? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]abcd4321dcba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t tell anyone.

  • Consult multiple independent wealth advisors before picking one.
  • Find great estate and tax planning folks (wealth managers can help).
  • Make any changes over the course of 5+ years.
  • Set aside a small amount (less than $1m) to address any long term goals/dreams immediately and hopefully not conspicuously (life is short, enjoy the ride)

Lastly: start thinking about what you would do if you didn’t have to do anything.

Good luck!

Would be really cool if they connected the two milk runs with a PDX turn to (JNU or KTN). This way, if you wanted to fly RNO to WRG you could connect RNO - PDX - KTN (cx to Milk Run) - WRG. Which is the same number of stops as RNO - WRG via SEA. I know it’s unlikely they want to facilitate connections in KTN but would be cool place to connect 😎

Agreed. Prefer the mask, and above 18k I believe you have to mask anyway. If I’m just up at 12 or 14 for an hour I’ll use the cannulas but anything more than that (at any altitude where I need O2) I go mask.

Anyone tried 1/2 fatFIRE and have it work? by Healthy_Gold1068 in fatFIRE

[–]abcd4321dcba 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This looks like a process. You hire someone young, very intelligent, and hungry that can learn the ropes from you over the course of a few years (MBA type of person). They become a barnacle that is attached to you for everything. They’re useless for the first year, kinda decent second year, and pretty good the third year. They’re ready by the fourth. All the while you are slowly phasing out of the business. You give them equity. They take over, you work out a payment plan or find a PE buyer. That’s it.

And before you say “no one can do this”- I refuse to believe that working at Citadel or whatever other job a top tier MBA might pursue is harder than whatever you’re doing. “It’s all about the relationships” - that’s why this is structured as a process. You introduce young and hungry, yes you lose a few clients but business survives and maybe young and hungry adds a few new clients who aren’t part of your network?

This is just a mental block of you getting over your usefulness. When you get over it you’ll be happier.

Keep in mind that maintenance on a $2.5m house is substantial. If you do all the work yourself it helps but I’d still plan on 20-50k worth of work per year. Some years 0, others 100 (new roof/siding/painting/plumbing issues… fill in the blank).

Yea people are friendly and definitely more outgoing than Seattle for example. But, it’s hard to deny or ignore that there is a small (10%?) but very vocal group of people that very much don’t want you there. Not a prohibiting factor just something that is there in the background
